With an increase in the demand for online and hybrid courses, faculty will require assistance in course design as well as support utilizing the learning management system for course delivery. The instructional designer position will provide the necessary support required for faculty and ultimately student success. Duties and Responsibilities Work independently to apply instructional design theories and best practices while supporting faculty in creating new and/or redesigning existing online courses to create innovative and technically advanced learning environments Providing consultation to faculty individually and small groups to enhance use of the campus Learning Management System ( LMS ) course and program development Developing and executing effective training using best practices in online course design for one-on-one, small and large groups in both face-to-face and online formats Developing and delivering web-based self-help support services for faculty teaching on online Creating media to support learning (e.g., visual aids for face-to-face, various multimedia for e-learning and online) Evaluating instructional software, multimedia applications and web based educational technologies as a basis for meeting the needs of faculty Perform other job-related duties and special projects as assigned Attend training and maintain skill currency as appropriate to safely and effectively complete assignments Required Qualifications Equivalent to a Bachelors degree having a concentration in educational technology, instructional design, online teaching and learning, or a closely-related field Two (2) years of professional experience in a position involving: Teaching or Corporate Training with a strong background in using a Learning Management System, such as Blackboard or Canvas Instructional Design Group Training and one-on-one consultation. Demonstrated proficiency in the use of the campus learning management system. Demonstrated customer service experience requiring a very high level of diplomacy and professionalism. Ability to initiate, establish, and foster communication and teamwork by maintaining a positive, cooperative, productive work atmosphere in the University with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within a diverse population and with those from various cultural backgrounds. Excellent communication skills; ability to effectively communicate information in a clear and understandable manner, both verbally and in writing. Ability to apply instructional design theories and methodologies; Ability to lead, moderate, and guide large and small groups with clear objectives; Excellent presentation skills; Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to set own priorities to coordinate multiple assignments with fluctuating and time-sensitive deadlines. Ability to work independently with general direction; Excellent computer skills and competence with a variety of computer applications including word-processing, spreadsheets, databases, online systems, Internet as well as online calendaring and email. Preferred Qualifications Masters or higher degree preferred Knowledge of adult learning theories; Instructional design and development for online and hybrid learning; Advanced knowledge, skill, and experience with new and emerging learning technologies; Experience working with and guiding instructors with competing priorities and a wide- range of skill levels for using technology in teaching and learning; Excellent interpersonal/intercultural skills working with a diverse group of faculty, staff, students, and administrators; Experience teaching online in a higher education setting. Demonstrated skills in an institutional/educational environment utilizing a customer- oriented and service-centered attitude. Physical Demands SEDENTARY WORK involves mainly sitting; minimal walking and standing; lifting light weight objects limited to 15 pounds.
