    GENERAL POSITION DESCRIPTION

    The Director of Open Doors/Upward Bound manages the Talent Search and Upward Bound TRiO programs at Cameron University.  The director is responsible for the administration and oversight of programs and personnel that ensure the efficient, equitable, and student-centered delivery of program services. This position supervises full-time and part-time professional and classified staff. The Director of Open Doors/Upward Bound reports to the Vice President for Enrollment Management & Student Success.

    JOB DUTIES OF THE DIRECTOR INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

    COLLEGIALITY

    • Professionally and efficiently execute Cameron University’s commitment to student success
    • Work collaboratively with campus and community stakeholders to include teachers, staff, and administrators at Lawton Public Schools
    • Assist students and supporters with accessing resources to make college attendance affordable
    • Provide community outreach and presentations relating to program opportunities
    • Advise the vice president on matters related to program performance

    STRATEGIC PLANNING/COMPLIANCE

    • Maintain knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations as connected to secondary and postsecondary education
    • Develop and lead a departmental strategic plan
    • Develop and manage budgets in alignment with federal program guidelines and university policy
    • Collect and analyze program evaluation data and supervise submission of annual performance reports
    • Assess program activities and participate in the university assessment process
    • Assist with the submission of federal, state, and institutional reports as required
    • Write program grant proposals
    • Maintain student rights under the Federal Educational Rights and Privacy Act
    • Coordinate and facilitate Upward Bound summer programming and educational field trips
    • Complete the application for and supervise Oklahoma Summer Feeding Program for Upward Bound

    MANAGEMENT

    • Perform all appropriate administrative duties including, but not limited to, budget maintenance, personnel development, and departmental assessment
    • Oversee and assist in the coordination of secondary student recruitment within Lawton Public Schools
    • Guide staff in developing curriculum and activities that best serve under-represented students as they overcome barriers to postsecondary education success
    • Work with advisors to monitor the progress of high school seniors in their college preparation process

    SERVICE

    • Ensure that program participants are served efficiently, with courtesy and respect in compliance with federal regulations
    • Engage and support parents/guardians in the college preparation process by providing monthly informational meetings about the college preparation process
    • Participate in staff development programming, campus functions, and serve on University committees
    • Assist program participants to complete and submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, as necessary
    • Correspond with program participants offering advice, resources, or referral to other campus resources
    • Arrange travel and programming for events
    • Chaperone activities as needed, including nights and weekends
    • Perform other duties as assigned

    MINIMUM EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

    • An earned master’s degree in counseling, social work, education or psychology or related field
    • Minimum of five years responsible employment
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, specifically Microsoft Excel and Word
    • Demonstrated commitment to student success and excellent customer services skills
    • Demonstrated critical thinking, evaluation and creative problem solving skills
    • Ability to communicate diplomatically, clearly, and effectively; both verbally and written
    • Ability to establish and maintain positive and effective relations with campus and community stakeholders

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Prior employment within a TRiO program
    • Experience working with diverse and varied student populations including low socioeconomic status (SES), first generation, and other groups traditionally underrepresented in higher education
    • Two years of experience working with business intelligence processes, reports, and database software, or four years directly related experience with Oracle and Ellucian (Banner) systems in an institution of higher education
    • Three years of administrative and supervisory experience
    • Counseling experience and experience in program and curriculum development, and familiarity with a University environment
    • Previous grant writing experience 
    • A terminal degree (specifically Ed.D. or Ph.D.)
    • Bilingual – Spanish

    SALARY RANGE:  Commensurate (Budgeted at $50,470/annually)
