  • Responsibilities

    The Senior Academic Coordinator of Bloomberg Scholarship Fund will provide support with academic advising for Bloomberg Scholarship Recipients. When needed, the Advisor will guide the students to various campus resource that provide academic and/or psychological counseling. The Coordinator maintains relationships with faculty and staff and conducts seminars, workshops, events to students throughout the semester to assist with academic and career success.

    • Provides support to the Academic Masters of the college
    • • Covers designated office walk-in hours
    • • Monitors academic issues and program progress and assists students in identifying and overcoming academic difficulties through thoughtful educational planning
    • • Assesses individual student needs, makes appropriate referrals to other campus services and resources as needed
    • • Presents information sessions and host workshops such as interviewing and networking skills, resume and cover letter, residency and research application processes
    • • Develops and maintains an early alert system with the mission of identifying students that could use additional support or academic intervention
    • • Coordinates with academic support services (tutoring, academic coaching, Supplemental Instruction, etc.);
    • • Processes student academic performance data related to early alerts and progress flags; and provides support for faculty, advisors, and campus partners
    • • Collaborates with other administrative and academic departments as needed to improve advising process and services of the Navigate platform; serves on other college committees as needed; actively participates in regional/national organizations relevant to advising duties
    • Assist with generating periodic reports in accordance with the Bloomberg Scholarship Fund Report schedule
    • Preparation of Bloomberg Scholars bi-annual meeting
    • Work in conjunction with the Scholarship Committee to ensure all Bloomberg Scholarships awards are awarded timely
    • Work in conjunction with all the Associate Dean (s) in the School of Medicine to ensure the Bloomberg Scholar Fund goals are met
    • Other duties as assigned

     

    Required Skills

    • This position will require knowledge of the use and management of the Education Management Solutions (EMS) system (training will be provided).
    • A background in academic or career advising, counseling, higher education administration, or related field
    • Knowledge of student development and academic advising theories
    • Knowledge of Blackboard or Canvas
    • Knowledge of web-based advising tools
    • Ability to evaluate student transcripts and/ or records
    • Must be able to exercise food judgement in timely fulfillment of responsibilities and meet deadlines, while expertly handling multiple tasks and priorities
    • Must be well-organized and pay attention to details
    • Strong listening skills and interpersonal skills
    • Ability to take initiative to be a self-started and work independently
    • Must be proficient with data collection and reporting

    Required Experience

    • Master's degree required from an accredited college or university
    • Two years of experience working in academic medicine
    • Knowledge of grant management
    • Demonstrated effective written and oral communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community
    • Demonstrated ability to effectively gather and organize information from a variety of sources, and to concurrently coordinate programs and services
    • Ability to multitask and display a high degree of accuracy
    • Must understand the mission of the institution and should possess knowledge and understanding of relevant trends and issues in medical education, including community service, and research
