    Note: This position starts Spring Semester following the New Year's holiday. 

     

    The Learning & Tutoring Commons Coordinator is a full-time (40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM), 12-month year-round exempt position in the Innovation and Success Center. The Learning & Tutoring Commons Coordinator develops and manages centralized tutoring at the College of Southern Idaho, including the drop-in Peer Tutoring Program, Peer Tutoring Program, Learning Assistant Program, Online Tutoring, and related services. This position reports to the Instructional Support Dean.  

    Coordinate Peer Tutoring services for campus and off-campus centers.

    Coordinate the Learning Assistant Program, specifically for STEM and HSHS courses while working closely with faculty and the Center for Instructional Excellence.

    Coordinate Online Tutoring for math and writing.

    Market Learning & Tutoring Commons services on an ongoing basis and to campus and off-campus locations.

    Oversee and monitor budget and payroll for the Learning & Tutoring Commons program.

    Coordinate and participate in “Don’t Cancel Your Class” program.

    Demonstrate ability to work well with students, faculty, administration, staff, and tutors.

    Collaborate with the Early College Program to assist dual credit students with campus tutoring.

    Oversee Math and Physical Science lab facilitators.

    Participate in SOAR by providing Learning & Tutoring Commons sessions and/or informational materials.

    Oversee Math, Physical Science, and Biology lab facilitators.

    Collaborate with faculty to provide appropriate workshops for improving student learning skills.

    Coordinate peer tutors, Learning assistants, work-study students, and athletic study hall proctor.

    1. Recruit, supervise, and retain staff
    2. Develop tutor, proctor, Learning Assistant, and student materials. Collaborate with faculty to provide discipline specific training.
    3. Conduct Learning Assistant and tutor workshops on a regular basis.
    4. Direct some computer-assisted instruction activities.
    5. Supervise work-study students.
    6. Supervise Athletic Study Hall proctor.

    Demonstrate effective leadership and management skills.

    1. Teach and maintain peer tutor training on-line course EDUC 110.
    2. Use effective interpersonal skills with 1) local high schools in promoting peer tutor training course as dual credit and 2) the Education Department in promoting peer tutor training course.
    3. Use effective oral and written communication skills.
    4. Use effective interpersonal skills for conducting student workshops and training for tutoring staff.
    5. Use effective and efficient organization and record-keeping skills.

    Provide data and reports on a regular basis.

    1. Regularly conduct student satisfaction follow-up surveys.
    2. Produce and maintain detailed records of students-tutor contact hours, facility use, lab use, and student profile by discipline.
    3. Produce outcomes assessment reports on activities and lab usage
    4. Maintain Canvas Program Review site.

    Regularly evaluate and modify the Peer Tutoring program, Learning Assistant, and Learning & Tutoring Commons services.

    Utilize a strong computer applications background.

    Oversee and monitor computer use in the Learning & Tutoring Commons, Labs, and Burley Center.

    Managing software needs and requests from various disciplines and departments.

    Assist the Center for Instructional Excellence as needed

    Required Skills

    • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university. Master's degree preferred.
    • Strong computer and technical skill knowledge.
    • Experience working with technology, specifically in a distance education setting.
    • Knowledge of Office products and software.
    • Strong written and spoken communication skills with the ability to establish personal and professional credibility with both internal and external constituents.
    • Ability to listen actively and demonstrate understanding to a diverse population of students, college employees, and community members.
    • Excellent customer service skills
    • Ability to analyze and evaluate outcomes and effectiveness of projects/programs.
    • Ability to generate and identify opportunities to improve programs and/or operations.
    • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, set priorities, and meet deadlines.
    • Demonstrated ability to work independently.
    • Supervisory experience.

    Required Experience

    • Secondary and/or post-secondary teaching experience is highly desirable.
    • Learning assistance center experience is highly desirable.
    • Educational technology experience and computer proficiency are highly desirable.
    • Bilingual in English and Spanish is desirable.
