    Job Description

    OVERVIEW

     

    Early School Extended Day teachers maintain an environment that supports the Charlotte Preparatory School mission statement and upholds the Four Pillars of Leadership: Respect, Integrity, Perseverance, and Courage. The position requires patience and respect for children. This is a full-time position, typically 12:00-6:00 p.m. This person will also be required if needed by the Head of Early School to come in for coverage during those days when the Early School requires full day child care and campus is closed, professional development days, or conference days.     KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

     

    · Organize end-of-day activities to offer a home-away- from-home experience

    · Be familiar with and sensitive to Montessori principles and be aware of Day Care Licensing requirements

    · Keep room clean and organized

    · Make sure shelves and material are fresh and inviting

    · Provide as many opportunities for children to be engaged as possible throughout the end of the day

    · Supervise nap time and playground times as needed

    · Make sure activities are age appropriate

    · Rotate book choices according to interest and themes

    · Keep materials and supplies stocked and ready to use

    · Place each activity on a tray or in a basket, use Montessori rugs for floor activities

    · Keep extra materials organized and labeled for rotation and storage

    · Ensure the health and safety of each child through current CPR/First Aid training, and careful supervision both in the classroom and on the playground

    · Communicate activity plans with classroom teachers and with parents weekly

    · Include art activities, stories, circle games, songs/creative movement, organized gym or outdoor games

    · Children must be supervised at all times (keeping face-to-name sheet current), and must be signed out by an adult

    · Teachers should actively participate with the children

    · Follow Early School Discipline policy, and policies set forth in the CPS Employee Handbook

    · Produce a monthly newsletter covering the themes and activities you have planned along with any other news

     

    PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

     

    · Early Childhood Education Certification or equivalent; some knowledge of Montessori philosophy desirable but not required.

    · 1 year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

     

     

    PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS

     

    · Team orientation – able to work effectively with other members of the school administrative team, other faculty members, parents, students, and other school/Montessori community colleagues. Sees the school as an entire entity, rather than an isolated Early School division.

    · Strong communication and organizational skills with high levels of attention to detail

    · Positive, enthusiastic, and warm personality

    · Strong work ethic, proactive, and success-oriented

    · Demonstrates patience and respect for small children and their natural development as inherent throughout the teachings and philosophy of Maria Montessori
