    Maintenance Worker - Park Reservations Salary $13.67 - $16.74 Hourly Location Allen, TX Job Type Full Time Department Parks & Recreation Job Number 01928 Closing 1/16/2019 5:00 PM Central Description The purpose of this position is to provide maintenance support to the City's parks, land, greenbelts, golf course and residing facilities. This is accomplished by managing the turf and lawn, completing landscaping operations such as mowing, weed eating and edging, planting seeds, trees and other shrubbery, laying sod to ensure plant life, repairing park, field and golf course infrastructures and facilities when needed and preparing sports fields for play. Other duties may include cleaning and picking up debris, assisting with irrigation installations, repairing park playgrounds, performing pool maintenance, documenting work completed and interfacing with other City employees and citizens. This position does not provide direction to other employees. Essential Functions This information is intended to be descriptive of the key responsibilities of the position. The following examples do not identify all duties performed by any single incumbent. Performs landscaping duties at the City's park and recreational facilities, golf course and green belts by mowing and edging lawns, removing debris from walking areas and lawns, trimming trees and shrubbery, operating equipment to remove weeds from lawns and fields and operating various lawn tools and equipment. Ensures equipment and machinery is operating safely and properly by performing preventative maintenance, identifying problems with equipment, replacing faulty or problematic parts and repairing equipment as needed. Maintains City facilities such as playground equipment, pools, water fountains and the interior and exterior of buildings by inspecting structures, determining if problems exist, replacing faulty or problematic parts, repairing damage as needed, stocking supplies as necessary and reporting maintenance performed. Assists with irrigation installations and repairs by determining problems, repairing and replacing parts, digging holes for accessibility and installation purposes, retrieving the appropriate tools and equipment and producing work orders. Educates citizens and other employees about field and park conditions by replying to questions and inquiries and directing citizens to the appropriate departments. Job Requirements Formal Education / Knowledge Work requires the ability to read and understand written instructions, to understand simple processes and the routine operation of machines. Level of knowledge equivalent to four years of high school or equivalency. Experience No experience required. Certification and Other Requirements Valid Class C Drivers License. Supplemental Information Reading Basic - Ability to recognize meaning of common two- or three-syllable words. Ordinarily, such education is obtained in elementary school up to high school. However, it may be obtained from experience and self-study. Math Basic - Ability to perform the four basic arithmetic operations. Ordinarily, such education is obtained in elementary school up to high school. However, it may be obtained from experience and self-study. Writing Basic - Ability to write simple sentences containing subject, verb, and object, and/or series of numbers, names, and addresses. Ordinarily, such education is obtained in elementary school up to high school. However, it may be obtained from experience and self-study. Managerial Receives immediate direction. The employee normally performs the duty assignment after receiving detailed instructions as to methods, procedures, and desired end results with little room for deviation. Close and constant review is given. Supervisory / Organizational Control No responsibility for the direction or supervision of others. Complexity Normal tasks require use of definite procedures, with little deviation. Work requires little or no analysis or judgment. Interpersonal / Human Relations Skills Discussion Occasional: 20% or less of work time. Health & Dental Insurance The City of Allen offers a choice of two PPO Medical Plan options for full-time employees. Vision insurance is included through enrollment in either of these plans. Employees also have the option of participating in an indemnity Dental Plan. Coverage is available to all full-time employees and their dependents under these plans at group rates. Employee insurance coverage goes into effect the first day of the month following 30 days of employment. Insurance Coverage Basic Group Life Insurance and Accidental Death and Dismemberment protection is provided to eligible full-time employees in the amount of one time the annual salary up to a maximum of $250,000 for each benefit. Long-Term Disability Insurance is provided at no cost to full-time employees. The City of Allen also offers optional programs that include Short-Term Disability, Voluntary Supplemental Life, Dependent Life and Voluntary AD&D insurance group rates. Flexible Spending Accounts Participation in Flexible Spending Accounts through payroll deduction for Health Care and Dependent Care expenses is also available for full time employees. Wellness Program The City of Allen administers a wellness program for full-time employees which provides premium reimbursement for participation in various wellness programs throughout the year. Workers Compensation All employees are covered by workers compensation for injuries sustained in the line of duty. Holidays Employees receive nine paid holidays per year, including one personal day. Vacation Employees with less than five years of service are eligible to earn 80 hours per year. An employee with five or more years of service is eligible to earn 120 hours per year. Employees with ten or more years of service are eligible for 160 hours per year. Sick Leave Employees earn 72 hours of sick leave per year. There is no limit to the amount of sick leave hours accrued. Retirement The City of Allen participates in the Texas Municipal Retirement System (TMRS): All full-time employees must participate in the Texas Municipal Retirement System. TMRS is a qualified tax deferred retirement plan under Section 401 of the IRS. Seven (7%) percent of gross earnings are deducted each payroll as a pre-tax deduction and deposited into the member account. When an employee becomes vested and retires, the City provides 2-to-1 matching contributions. The City of Allen also participates in Social Security. Deferred Compensation The City of Allen offers an optional deferred compensation 457 plan in which employees can contribute a portion of their salary, before taxes, to a retirement account.
