The City is focused on cultivating a healthy and diverse economic climate to enable the growth and maintenance of a diversified tax base that supports strong employment opportunities for our residents. * Parking Enforcement - The City is responsible for enforcing the Pico Rivera Municipal Code and California Vehicle Code. Parking Enforcement Officers issue approximately 2,200 citations per month, generating approximately $1,000,000 in revenue per year. This revenue is funneled back into the City's general fund and used to fund other services, such as recreation programs and street repairs. The Position The Parking Enforcement Officers (Specialists) are responsible for issuing and writing notices of violation of any State of California Statute or any City of Pico Rivera Ordinance related to the standing or parking of a vehicle. This position will be required to work non-traditional hours including nights, early mornings, weekends, and holidays based on special events, community meetings, and commission meetings. This recruitment will be utilized to establish an eligibility list that may be used to fill other current or future vacancies in this classification. Essential Duties: The ideal candidate will have the ability to perform the following essential functions: * Issue and write clear parking citations. * Issue parking citation to vehicles illegally parked in residential areas during scheduled street sweeping days, to vehicles parked within 15 feet of a fire hydrant, and to vehicles parked for over 72 hours (abandoned vehicles). * Record and keep a daily journal of activities and prepare monthly productivity reports. Investigate and process complaints from the public. * Respond to subpoenas and appear in municipal court regarding parking citations. * Keep accurate records. * Check and issue citations to unauthorized vehicles in restricted City Hall parking areas. * Perform duties as assigned. Qualifications: Knowledge of: * Local and state laws related to inoperative and illegally parked vehicles. * City streets address and locations. * Modern office methods and procedures. Ability to: * Deal with the public in a tactful and courteous manner. * Communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing. * Keep accurate organized records. * Understand and carry out oral and written directions. * Work cooperatively with others. Experience and Education: Any combination of experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be one year of public contact experience. A high school diploma or G.E.D. certificate is required. Licenses and Certifications: A valid Class C California Driver's license throughout the course of employment.
