Position of Trust: Background check is required. (FONT) ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The following duties and responsibilities are illustrative of the primary functions of this position and are not intended to be all inclusive. (FONT) -Installs, maintains, repairs and assists qualified personnel in the operation of the Citys electric distribution system. -Maintains high and low voltage equipment. -Assists qualified employees with high voltage switching and load transfer. -Works overtime when required. -Maintains vehicle truck stock, tools, and materials -Works closely with heavy equipment operators to expose utilities, dig trenches, pole holes, etc. -Operates and maintains specialized line construction equipment such as directional boring machine, bucket truck, and backhoe. -Installs and maintains electrical residential and commercial metering. -Interprets material needs from work orders and blueprints. -May direct the work of other crew members. -Assists in training and development of crew members. -Manages databases and programs by collecting and entering information. -Inspects work for completion and conformance to standards. -Teaches safety and job- related classes for the utility department and the public. -Provides customer service by answering questions, providing information and referrals, and resolving complaints and problems. -Maintains cooperative and compatible working relations with internal and external customers, employees, contractors, and managers. -Assumes responsibility for job site, employee, and public safety ininstances where lineworkers, line crew chiefs, and others may not be present. (FONT) SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This job has no supervisory responsibilities. QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the necessary functions of this position. (FONT) KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES -Knowledge of fundamental principles of electrical energy. -Knowledge of National Electric Safety Code. -Knowledge of distribution mapping symbols and procedures. -Knowledge of primary and secondary meters and operation. -Knowledge of street lighting system -Knowledge of line clearance, and tree trimming. -Knowledge of primary voltage switching procedures and techniques. -Ability to be on-call 24 hours a day, including weekends and holidays. -Ability to operate directional boring machine, digger truck, bucket truck, backhoe, trenchers and tampers, cable pulling machines, chain saws, and various electric testing equipment. -Ability to maintain vehicles and equipment. -Ability to do basic math. -Ability to climb and work at heights. -Ability to use text, email, mobile devices, and other means of communication. -Proficient in rescue procedures including pole top, confined space and aerial device rescue. -Ability to interpret blueprints and mechanical and electrical drawings and schematics. -Knowledge of and conformance with all safety procedures associated with construction, maintenance and operation of the electrical system. (FONT) EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE High school diploma or GED; one year related experience and/or training in electrical distribution system installation, operation and maintenance; or equivalent combination of education and experience. (FONT) LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organizations. (FONT) REASONING ABILITY Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. (FONT) CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS -Current Colorado Class A Commercial driver's license -CPR Training and Certification -First Aid Certification -Electrical Lineworker Program Certificate preferred (FONT) PHYSICAL DEMANDS The employee must perform heavy manual labor and assist with pole, bucket truck, and vault rescue. The employee is regularly required to stand; walk on uneven surfaces; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 90 pounds and occasionally lift 52 pounds overhead. (FONT) WORK ENVIRONMENT(B) While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; risk of electrical shock; and vibration. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, extreme cold, and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud.
