(SPAN)ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:The following duties and responsibilities are illustrative of this position and are not intended to be all inclusive.(SPAN) -Coordinate, administer, and monitor progress of department, division, and/or city programs or projects. -Participate in development of general public information and marketing of projects or programs; may design brochures, flyers, and/or newsletters. -Coordinate distribution of information and provide assistance to employees, management and/ or the general public. -Conduct research, compile and prepare records or reports. -Monitors and updates web pages. -Develop and maintain data bases. -Develop and monitor departmental budget; tracks program expenditures. -Act as liaison to other city offices; represent department at meetings as required. -Provide administrative and technical support as needed; may provide administrative support to a board or commission. -Coordinate and schedule meetings, training, and travel as required. -May conduct financial transactions such as accounts payable, claims processing or requisitions for purchase. -May monitor the work of hourly or temporary employees as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the necessary functions of this position. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES -Thorough knowledge of the department's goals, objectives and services. -Ability to work with limited supervision and exercise independent judgement. -Knowledge of principles of project management; ability to manage time, organize and prioritize work effectively. -Knowledge of standard office software including word processing and data base. -Ability to operate more complex software for Desktop publishing, computer graphics and spreadsheet development. -Effective oral and written communication; good grammar, proofreading and editing skills. -Knowledge of basic math and accounting; basic budget and finance management. -Ability to organize and prioritize work effectively. -Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with citizens, customers, other agencies, city departments and staff. -Ability to type a minimum of 50 words per minute. -Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with citizens, customers, other agencies, city departments and staff. -Ability to work independently. -May require general understanding of public/media relations, marketing, advertising and promotional concepts and objectives. -May require ability to conduct, analyze and present market research; develop outreach materials. -May require knowledge of Associated Press Stylebook and ability to write articles which conform to prescribed style and format. LANGUAGE SKILLS:Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
