    Job Description

    The School of Professional Studies M.S. in Technology Management program is seeking industry professionals to design and teach the summer 2025 course Full-Stack Products and Practices. These individuals will serve as part-time Lecturers.

    This course provides a comprehensive examination of modern software product development, focusing on creating solutions that address clear user needs and challenges. A “product” in this context refers to a software program that instructs computer hardware to operate, solve problems, and manage tasks effectively.

    Modern product development benefits from systematic practices that enhance efficiency, sustainability, and continuity. These practices, including flexibility, iterative development, customer feedback, and efficient project management, are essential for adapting quickly to rapidly evolving market and technology landscapes.

    Responsibilities

    • Lead in-person class lectures, instructional activities, and classroom discussion.

    • Evaluate student work and grade assignments.

    • Monitor student concerns and inquiries and be the first point of contact for student questions.

    • Hold weekly office hours.

    • Part‐time Lecturers who are new to SPS must complete Canvas training (online learning management system)

    Class Days and Times
    The summer class schedule has yet to be determined. There is a two semester development cycle for this course: Fall 2024 through Spring 2025.

  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    Columbia University SPS operates under a scholar-practitioner faculty model, which enables students to learn from faculty that have outstanding academic training as well as a record of accomplishment as practitioners in an applied industry setting.

    Requirements

    • Graduate degree in Computer Science, Information Science, or a technology related field from an accredited institution.

    • 10+ years of experience in a role involving management and leadership.

    • University teaching experience preferred.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • 10+ years hands-on experience in user-centered, product-driven, Agile/Lean/XP processes in mobile and web application development in both startup and enterprise environments using latest tools

    • Experience leading multi-stakeholder teams from ideation to full production

    • Thought leadership as reflected by blogging/writing and public speaking

    • Experience with digital transformation, especially in regulated industries

    • Fluency with contemporary ethical debates related to technology

    Additional Information

    Salary : $15,450.00 per semester-length course teaching (as of academic year 2024-2025). $5,000 total for two semesters (Fall 2024 and Spring 2025) of course development.
