    Job Description

    Columbia University’s Master's in Nonprofit Managementprogram seeks candidates to teach Management courses within our curriculum including, but not limited to, Managing the Mission-based Organization, International Nonprofit: Management and Perspectives, Capstone. Course sections are generally taught one day or evening per week for each semester, depending on program needs and instructor availability. SPS seeks individuals with a vibrant portfolio of relevant professional experience, graduate academic study, and professional or academic publications.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Lead class lectures, instructional activities, and classroom discussion. Attend all class sessions.

    • Monitor and address student concerns and inquiries.

    • Evaluate, grade student work and assessments.

    • Conduct office hours.

    • Participate in the M.S. Nonprofit Management community, including faculty meetings, designing workshops, engaging in pedagogical development, advising students, etc.

     

  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • Columbia University SPS operates under a scholar-practitioner faculty model, which enables students to learn from faculty possessing outstanding academic training as well as a record of accomplishment as practitioners in an applied professional setting. 

    • Candidates should have extensive leadership experience applying their discipline in the nonprofit sector, teaching experience, and a deep and demonstrated understanding of applied and academic trends that are driving best practices.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • Graduate degree in an area at the intersection of the course subject matter expertise and nonprofit organizations;

    • Seven to ten years of professional experience, with at least ten years preferred;

    • Experience teaching graduate-level, semester-long courses.

     

    PREFERRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

    • 10+ years of formal management experience in the nonprofit sector. 

    • 2+ years of teaching experience, ideally at the graduate level.
