    Job Description

    The Columbia University School of Professional Studies is launching a Master’s Program in Wealth Management (https://sps.columbia.edu/academics/masters/wealth-management) beginning Fall Semester 2020. The program is on‐line, asynchronous instruction for the convenience of working professionals.  During the Fall Semester, three online courses in Foundations of Wealth Management (14 weeks), The Wealth Management Landscape (first 7 weeks) and Client Psychology (second 7 weeks) will be offered to an initial cohort consisting of approximately 20 Master’s students.

    The Program is seeking a Teaching Assistant (TA) this Fall to support the instructional faculty who are responsible for teaching these courses at Columbia University School of Professional Studies.  The TA would work with all three lecturers in grading weekly discussion board posts as well as in assessing written Problem-Based Learning Assignments using program-specific rubrics. The TA may also be asked to conduct periodic Zoom Office Hour Sessions throughout the Fall Semester.

    Qualifications

    Teaching Assistants (TA) must be current, full-time Columbia graduate students (12 credits or more) and can only hold one Student Officer position in the University at a time. Student Officer appointments include Teaching Assistants, Research Assistants, Teaching Fellows, Research Fellows, Preceptors, and Readers. 

    • Part-time and half-time students may not serve as Teaching Assistants; there are no exceptions to this rule. 

    • Students are required to submit a copy of their Academic Profile (located on the Student Services Online (SSOL) website), to prove full-time enrollment in advance of the start of the semester. Students without full-time enrollment indicated on the SSOL website will not be eligible to begin working. 

    • Dropping below full-time enrollment at any point in the semester will result in automatic termination of the TA position.

     

    In order to work as Teaching Assistants during the summer term, graduate students must be enrolled full-time during the previous spring term. Students who have completed the requirements of their degree plan in the spring semester are not eligible to work as a Teaching Assistant during the summer term.

    International students must have a current VISA and an I-20 that is valid on or before the hire date, and it must remain active throughout the appointment period.

    Per Columbia University policy, students are not permitted to work more than 20 hours per week while school is in session, which is inclusive of all positions held across the university.
