Responsibilities for SUBSTITUTE SCHOOL NURSES include:

• Conduct school health services, including physical examinations, immunizations, tests for hearing and vision, based on State Health and Department of Education guidelines.
• Assume responsibility for selection and referral of students in need of medical and dental care.
• Report to parents, school personnel, physician, clinics, and other agencies on school medical matters
• Tend to an emergency situation for students and staff personnel.
• Document students' visits to the nurse's office.
• Administer necessary nursing procedures based on students' needs and doctor's orders.

ELIGIBLE CANDIDATES MUST HOLD A CURRENT RN LICENSE AND HAVE A MINIMUM OF THREE YEARS IN THE NURSING PROFESSION OR CURRENTLY HAVE A SCHOOL NURSE TEACHER CERTIFICATION ISSUED BY RIDE.

QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education/Experience:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and 5 years phlebotomy experience.

Language Ability:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Math Ability:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability: 

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Word Processing software.

Certificates and Licenses:

A valid driver’s license from the state that the employee resides as well as a clean driving record. Must be accessible to appropriate and reliable transportation to perform essential duties and responsibilities. CPR Certification encouraged but not mandatory.
