    The Career and Transfer Center has an opening for a part-time Career Advisor that will guide students in academic and career exploration. The Advisor will work within an innovative team environment dedicated to student success through leading-edge practices in guided pathways and career development. The Advisor will work with undeclared students to develop and implement career plans and assist with career assessment, job search strategies, resume writing, academic and career exploration, transfer planning, and other activities to guide the student toward meeting their goals.

     

    The Advisor will also assist with classroom presentations for the First Year Experience program, career exploration workshops, and other campus programming that aligns with the student’s career exploration journey.

     

    The successful candidate will be an energetic, self-motivated, and goal-oriented professional with a commitment to building an inclusive environment. Must provide exemplary customer service and be able to relate and build rapport with people of all age groups, academic backgrounds, and cultures. The Career and Transfer Advisor must have exemplary interpersonal skills and effective communication skills.

     

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Master’s Degree from an accredited institution, OR
      • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and two years of experience in an advising or counseling role at a post-secondary educational institution may substitute for the master’s degree requirement, but will not count towards the minimum experience requirement.
    • One year of experience in an academic advising, recruitment, career advising, or workforce development setting.

     

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Master’s degree from an accredited institution in Counseling, Student Development, Education, or a field of study that enhances the individual's ability to assist students in an academic environment.
    • 3-5 years of advising/career counseling experience in a community college setting or workforce development experience.
    • MBTI and Strong Interest Inventory certification.
    • Global Career Development Facilitator (GCDF) or Master Career Counselor (MCC) credentialed or other career coaching/counseling certification.
    • Experience developing and conducting workshops that assist students/clients with career development.
    • Knowledge of Banner, Navigate, and Microsoft Office suite.
    • Commitment to creating an inclusive learning & work environment and demonstrated ability to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff of diverse backgrounds.
    • Competent in both written and verbal communication skills.
    • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively with other staff members, students, and administrators, and be able to be productive in time-sensitive and at times, high-pressured situations.

     

    PAY RATE:  Pay rate for this position is $20.00 per hour. This is a 9-month, part-time, FLSA non-exempt temporary position. Not to exceed 28 hours per week.

    PHYSICAL & COGNITIVE DEMANDS:

    The following are some of the physical and cognitive demands commonly associated with this position.

    •  This is largely a sedentary role. This position operates in a standard office environment and constantly uses a computer and routinely uses standard office equipment including phones, copiers, scanners, etc.
    • Cognitive demands include comparing, copying, computing, compiling, analyzing, coordinating, synthesizing, negotiating, communicating, instructing, and interpersonal skills.
    • Occasionally moves, positions, and transports office supplies and equipment, up to 10 lbs.
