The Community Safety team fulfills campus safety and security needs by providing a wide range of services, including overseeing emergency preparedness, assisting students, responding to reports of medical and mental health emergencies, reacting to fire and other alarms, and many more supportive services for the campus community. At Reed, Community Safety Officer responsibilities begin with connecting with students, staff, and faculty as community partners. While we receive training typical of traditional security staff, we emphasize service to the community and collaboration across the college. We train all new hires on the job through our two-month Field Training Evaluation Program, with extensive, ongoing in-service training. Successful candidates come from a wide variety of backgrounds.

This is a full-time position scheduled to work 40 hours per week with a 30 minute unpaid meal break. Typical shifts include days (6:30am-3:00pm), swing (2:30pm-11:00), and nights (10:30-7:00). Available shifts will be discussed during the interview process. There may be times when you are asked to work a shift not normally on your schedule. Starting base pay is $21.82 per hour, plus an additional swing shift differential for qualifying shifts (swing $.75/hr and nights $1.25/hr).
