    The University of Montana invites applications for a Research and Evaluation Associate. The Research and Evaluation Associate will conduct research and evaluation activities across a range of topics including early childhood care and education, HIV care and prevention, and health equity in health systems. The Research Associate will create survey and interview data collection tools, conduct interviews and focus groups, analyze quantitative and qualitative data, and contribute to reporting and dissemination activities. This position requires the ability to collect and analyze data using credible, feasible, and culturally appropriate procedures. It also requires strong written and verbal communication skills.

    Position duties include, but are not limited to:

    • Develop and implement online surveys
    • Apply statistical analysis to survey data
    • Independently conduct qualitative and quantitative data collection, analysis and outcomes reporting
    • Use systematic evidence to make evaluative judgments
    • Oversees data management and human subjects’ protections
    • Produce and maintain records of data collection and analysis decisions and processes
    • Use technology appropriately to support and manage data collection, analysis and reporting
    • Foster positive relationships for professional practice and evaluation use
    • Apply equity awareness to data and analytics
    • Collaborate with members of an interdisciplinary team
    • Support team efforts to complete projects ahead of deadlines
    • Create effective data visualizations
    • Contribute to development of high-quality reports, presentations and manuscripts
    • Prioritize multiple tasks and priorities with limited oversight
    • Analyze and creatively solve problems using new technologies and best practices

    The employee assigned to this position may supervise one to two undergraduate or graduate students who will serve as research assistants. The individual in this position will delegate work assignments and oversee the performance of these graduate students. The person assigned to this position is not responsible for the supervision or management of classified staff members or contract professional employees.

    Position Details:

    • Position is full-time (Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.), during the fiscal year (12-months) 0.75 FTE, Letter of Appointment and includes a comprehensive and competitive benefits package including Insurance package, mandatory retirement plan, partial tuition waiver, and wellness program
    • Salary for this position ranges from $50,000 – 58,000 per year commensurate with qualifications

    Required Qualifications:

    • Master’s degree in public health, psychology, social work, education, anthropology, geography, economics and other related fields with a minimum of two years’ experience conducting similar research/data analysis, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
    • Knowledge of Excel, Qualtrics and other data analysis and software systems
    • Understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion
    • A commitment to fostering a more equitable society through research and evaluation
    • Knowledge of social determinants of health and leading health indicators
    • Ability to develop a range of data collection tools through surveys, interviews and other means
    • Ability to perform qualitative and quantitative data analysis
    • Ability to conduct basic and advanced statistical analysis including data cleaning and manipulation, descriptive statistics and multivariate statistical analysis
    • Creative problem-solver who collaborates well with others
    • Ability to work with a positive attitude and with cultural humility
    • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with diverse audiences through both written and oral formats
    • Learn new systems and procedures quickly

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Demonstrated ability to embed equity into data, analysis and data visualizations
    • Excellent written and public speaking skills for a diverse range of audiences
    • Understand how research/data can be used to improve systems of care and outcomes for children, families and marginalized groups
    • Experience administering online survey via social media platforms
    • Experience conducting social network analysis
    • Experience conducting research related to HIV care and prevention and/or LGBTQ+ health
    • Proficient in using a wide range of software systems (e.g. R, STATA, SPSS, Tableau, RedCap, NVivo) for data analysis, generating reports, and disseminating findings
