  • Responsibilities

    PRIMARY PURPOSE:

    Provides customer service by performing duties and responsibilities associated with grounds/landscaping, event set-up, breakdown and general support for events and intermediate level facilities maintenance in the areas of electrical, carpentry, painting, dry wall, concrete work, and plumbing.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

    • Lead the grounds crew staff at the direction of the supervisor in all aspects of landscape maintenance and event setup activities.
    • Operate hand, power tools and equipment used in grounds and facilities maintenance;
    • Maintains grounds and landscaping: mow, trim, weed, fertilize, and water, pick up trash.
    • Performs pest control, i.e., snakes, bees, wasps, etc.
    • Performs tasks for the set-up and tear-down of tables and chairs for events;
    • Performs office relocations;
    • Performs irrigation repairs;
    • Replaces/installs general appliances;
    • Performs intermediate level plumbing, electrical, mechanical, carpentry, masonry, sheetrock, texture, plastering, painting and remodeling tasks;
    • Transport college vehicles for maintenance;
    • Inspect, maintain, and repair irrigation systems and fountains;
    • Report any needed equipment repair or unsafe conditions;
    • Maintains a collaborative work environment and works well with others.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Required Skills

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    High school diploma / GED preferred, reading and writing ability at ninth-grade level required; supplemented by at least three (3) years of experience in general grounds keeping/landscaping, and/or general maintenance work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience, required.  Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all members of the University community.   Knowledge of the operating techniques of various machinery and tools associated with grounds and general maintenance preferred.    Must be able to initiate, understand and follow through with oral and written instructions, and work independently.  Must have excellent follow-through.  Must be flexible.  Regular attendance is required.  Must be able to lift objects weighing up to 50 lbs.   Valid Florida driver’s license, required.  Works to build an environment that promotes and facilitates the success of Diversity and Inclusive Excellence.  Subject to on-call status as needed or on-call status/recall in the event of emergencies or natural disasters affecting the College of Law.
