Drew University seeks applications for an open-rank tenure-track professor and Faculty Director of Civic Engagement , beginning August 2023. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with the Director of the Center for Civic Engagement to provide leadership and a comprehensive vision for civic engagement at Drew University, with specific responsibilities of visioning, planning, and implementing curricular and academic elements, including Drew's Action Scholars Program. Key Responsibilities: In addition to providing leadership and vision for civic engagement at Drew, the position's primary responsibilities include teaching, research, student advising and mentoring, and pedagogical training for faculty interested in the field. Our ideal candidate must design and implement a visionary model for civically-engaged teaching and learning in a liberal arts environment while building on Drew's historical success and strong commitment to the Action Scholars Program, a cohort program for students who share this commitment. The successful candidate must be able to lead as part of a collaborative team, focusing on curricular and academic planning while working closely with the Director of the Center for Civic Engagement, a staff position responsible for visioning and planning co-curricular civic engagement elements and community partnerships. In addition, the position requires long-term planning of a robust roster of current and future community-based learning courses across a range of academic disciplines in the College of Liberal Arts. The candidate will teach the equivalent of three four-credit courses each year, including core seminars in the Action Scholars Program and Community-Based Learning (CBL) courses. Specific responsibilities in addition to teaching will include: * Developing a strategic vision and plan for civically-engaged teaching and learning at Drew University; * Expanding Drew's national reputation as a liberal arts institution with a deep commitment to civically-engaged practice, including recruitment of prospective Action Scholar students; * Working with key administrative offices at Drew to enhance enrollment and resources for the Action Scholars Program; * Working with faculty and the Director of the Center for Civic Engagement to maintain, identify, develop, and support a wide array of CBL classes across multiple academic disciplines, together with community partners for such, locally, from nearby municipalities, and globally; * Seeking, writing, and managing grants, and working with University Advancement to cultivate funding sources that support the Center's initiatives; * Advising and mentoring students in the theory and practice of civic engagement, and in general academic concerns; * Cultivating and supporting faculty interested in civic engagement through regular pedagogical training; * Collaborating with the Director of the Center to plan university-wide events to promote the work of the Center, and to inform and educate the campus community about both student and faculty civic engagement initiatives; * Pursuing research in and service to the field of civic engagement. Qualifications: The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. or the relevant terminal degree in their chosen field, together with a history of civically-engaged endeavor. Extensive experience working with community and institutional partners is required, as well as familiarity with the culture and structure of colleges and universities. Experience leading an innovative team of creative thinkers will be highly valued, as will a teaching background that includes both civically engaged experiential learning and traditional classroom forums. The ability to advise and mentor students is a critical component of the position, and a hallmark of Drew's educational philosophy.
