    THE POSITION

     

    WBUR is looking for a dynamic leader to help drive organizational change around diversity, equity and inclusion. The Director will design and implement organization-wide DEI efforts, and help shape a healthy and inclusive culture where everyone can grow and thrive. We are looking for a candidate with a deep understanding of diversity challenges and an ability to lead systemic change. As Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, you will report directly to the CEO and collaborate with senior leadership and other key stakeholders to advance our diversity and equity initiatives, and overall inclusion strategy. The Director will be tasked with measuring and monitoring organizational diversity, with a concrete goal to diversify leadership and staffing across the organization and to develop criteria for measuring the station’s progress. You must be able to create a vision of change that will inspire colleagues at all levels and help WBUR meaningfully serve our ever more diverse public.

     

    RESPONSIBILITIES

     

    • Set a strategic direction for DEI that is aligned with the vision and values of WBUR;
    • Create, implement and assess programs that will further the hiring, retention, and development of diverse talent;
    • Work with the leadership team to develop the strategic direction of WBUR and to support the organization's efforts to reach new and more diverse audiences;
    • Work with the CEO and the Director of Talent & Culture to create accountability for DEI across the senior leadership team and to develop and/or track relevant metrics to measure WBUR’s DEI progress;
    • Create and deliver diversity-related training to staff across all departments and help with organization-wide programs to support equity and inclusion;
    • Provide one-on-one coaching to senior leaders, managers and staff in support of their DEI efforts;
    • When possible, attend conferences and events as a representative of WBUR, advancing our efforts to increase diversity and inclusion;
    • Propel WBUR into an industry leading position on DEI.

    Required Skills

     

    • 5+ years of experience in leading or strongly supporting DEI work across complex organizations;
    • Demonstrated understanding and appreciation of the work of journalists and the demands of a fast-paced newsroom environment;
    • Proven effectiveness and expertise in change management and establishing a workplace culture defined by trust, respect, accountability, inclusion and learning;
    • An understanding of the principles, practices, technology, and laws that impact organizational development and change management;
    • A current and active involvement in the field of DEI;
    • Experience working collaboratively within diverse communities;
    • Experience creating and successfully presenting curriculum for DEI training;
    • Broad knowledge of regulatory and statutory compliance regulations related to DEI;
    • Strong understanding and display of confidentiality;
    • Superb written and oral communication skills;
    • Creative, ambitious and well-organized;
    • Great at problem-solving and conflict resolution; exceptional at building relationships/ sustaining effective collaborations.
