Job Detail Campus Location Boston Campus Working Title Engagement Officer Student and Young Alumni Description Reporting to the Associate Director of Student and Young Alumni Engagement, the Engagement Officer Student and Young Alumni, will play a pivotal role in the implementation of a college-wide student philanthropy education plan. To cultivate a culture of philanthropy at the College, the Engagement Officer will partner with students, organizations, and leaders at the College to align student interests with institutional philanthropic priorities and opportunities. The Engagement Officer will be tasked with reimaging the roles and responsibilities of student fundraisers. Including, but not limited to, the student-run phonathon program, the Engagement Officer will recruit, hire, train and manage a staff of students in an effort to build relationships, maintain records and raise funds to support Emerson College. The successful candidate will immerse themselves in the culture of Emerson College and be a collaborative partner to campus and community leaders in an effort to educate about the impact of philanthropy at the College. S/he will be well versed in fundraising best practices and emerging trends, and an early adopter of new fundraising technology. This position requires excellent communication skills, the ability to work well under pressure, and outstanding organizational and time management skills. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker, a team player, and have the ability to build relationships across the College as well as with donors. Primary Duties, Responsibilites, and Tasks Required Knowledge, Skills, and Education (including hardware, software, and equipment) Bachelors degree required. Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, as well as knowledge of marketing tools and database experience needed. Direct experience with annual giving solicitation marketing strongly preferred. Preferred/Desirable Knowledge, Skills, and Education (including hardware, software, and equipment) Direct experience with Raisors Edge NXT (or comparable donor database) and Wilson Bennett (or comparable automated calling system) preferred. Required Prior Work Experience 1-3 years of nonprofit, development, management, annual giving, marketing, public relations, or similar professional work experience required. Knowledge of direct response fundraising, especially mail or marketing best practices and metrics needed. Demonstrated project management skills, strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to work independently, attention to detail and follow-through, and excellent organizational skills are essential. Work with the Senior Class Gift Committee to raise funds via a participatory giving campaign as a part of the Voice Your Choice Program Job Duties Individual Work Activities Restructure the role of student fundraisers as pertaining to phonathon activity and beyond Implements a strategic plan of action with objectives and timelines for Emerson Colleges phonathon program for the solicitation of prospects Evaluates phonathon program segmentation and devises a comprehensive calendar for the fiscal year Recruits, hires, trains, supervises, evaluates and motivates student calling staff, including coaching through difficult conversations and providing positive reinforcement and constructive criticism as appropriate. Must continually explore, design, implement, refine and evaluate motivational strategies to ensure an acceptable retention rate and maximum productivity by student phonathon program employees, as well as handling disciplinary action of callers when necessary, and processing of student paperwork and tracking attendance Creates and revises all phonathon program materials including pre-call communications, scripts, training materials, processing forms and policy and procedure manuals at appropriate times Maintain Phonathon room, ensuring it is left in good order Working closely with Advancement Services, ensure segments are requested and loaded into calling platform well in advance of calling a particular segment. Ensure accurate reports are being sent to Advancement Services for updates and recording. Monitor benchmarking reports to track results and ensure data from Wilson Bennett is getting to Raisers Edge NXT database.
