    Fall 2018 Education Internship - Public Programs (Unpaid) The Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco is seeking college/university/graduate students for PUBLIC PROGRAMS. Public Programs: Public Programs is a subdivision of the Education Department that creates opportunities for the public to interact with the museum and artists through activities and performances such as artist demonstrations, art making, live music, film, etc. that are inspired by special exhibitions and the museums' collections. Programs are open to all ages and are generally free of charge. Schedule: The internship will last from September 1 - December 9, 2018. Applicants must be available for the following: * Every Friday Night program from September 28 - November 23, 4-10 pm * 4 office hours each week (to be scheduled Mon-Fri based on your availability) * Mandatory all-day training on Monday, September 10 Additional shifts will be requested for select Saturdays and Sundays (to be scheduled based on availability) for special weekend programming such as exhibition openings. Duties: 1. Prepare event supplies. 2. Set up and clean up event spaces. 3. Provide information and guidance to museum visitors. 4. Support Public Programs staff in facilitating programs. 5. Interact with museum visitors of all ages, staff, and performers. 6. Other duties may include: assisting performers, leading hands-on art making, ushering, and office administration. Educational Opportunities: 1. Strengthen skills in working with people of all ages and backgrounds. 2. Forge relationship with working artists and performers and arts advocates. 3. Contribute to the growth of innovative programs. 4. Expand knowledge of museum event logistics and educational programming strategies. 5. Acquiring understanding of museums' collections and exhibitions. Qualifications: Interns in the Education Department with Public Programs work closely with museum visitors of all ages and backgrounds and should be sensitive to other cultures and religions. Interns should have an interest in Art Education. Interns should have experience working with the public and be motivated and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment that requires multitasking, time management, and attention to detail, as well as a quieter environment that requires professionalism and courtesy in dealing with the adults and children, artists, and museum staff. The Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco are the city's largest public arts institutions and comprise the de Young and the Legion of Honor museums. The de Young, designed by Herzog & de Meuron and located in Golden Gate Park, showcases American art from the 17th through the 21st centuries, international contemporary art, textiles and costumes, and art from the Americas, the Pacific, and Africa. The Legion of Honor displays a collection of over 4,000 years of ancient and European art including Auguste Rodin's The Thinker and houses the Achenbach Foundation for Graphic Arts in a Beaux-Arts style building overlooking Lincoln Park and the Golden Gate Bridge.
