  • Responsibilities

    Under the supervision of the Carpenter Foreman, the Senior Carpenter plans, directs and supervises assigned personnel and directly participates in the carpentry tasks associated with routine maintenance and repairs, emergency maintenance and/or installations in or around University buildings. Establishes standards and procedures and develops work schedules of assigned personnel to insure proper operation. Inspects physical condition and appearances of University buildings and outdoor appurtenances, performs varied carpentry type work, including: cabinet and furniture repair; repairs to doors, hardware, locks, and closers; masonry and drywall repair; puttying; roofing and sheetmetal work; tuckpointing and sealing; flooring repair and installation; and sand blasting.  Performs general and finish carpentry work, repair and maintenance of existing buildings, floors, roofs, walls, stairways, doors, windows, cabinet making, desks, chairs, and other structures, including work on new University structures.  Operates all types of power and hand tools used in carpentry work. Cleans, sharpens, and repairs hand and bench tools; sharpens saws; oils machines and performs preventive maintenance work.  Keeps records and inventory of materials and tools used on the job and shop stock.  Maintain and delegate carpenter shop work orders generated from the TMA work order system. Communication and coordination with contractors and vendors when necessary. Will assist in co-ordination with other Physical Facility Departments. In addition, they will manage contractors hired by the University. Performs duties such as: hang sheetrock, paint, pour concrete, and other duties associated with the carpentry trade.  Performs other duties.

     

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

    Graduate of a standard high school or equivalent. Five years of carpentry experience. Three years of supervisor/management experience. Ability to use tools of the carpentry trade, including the use of power woodworking machinery. Ability and knowledge to set forms for concrete and must be able to perform concrete finishing.  Ability to read blue prints. Possession of a valid Oklahoma driver license.

     

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:  

    Experience in specialized area, i.e., cabinet making, roofing.  Ten years of carpentry experience.  Five years of supervisor/management experience. General handyman experience. Journeyman card in carpentry.

     

    SALARY RANGE:

    Commensurate with background and experience.
