We are seeking a talented and motivated individual to join our team as a SENIOR MECHANICAL ENGINEER. This position will primarily focus on the development of T2 Biosystems next generation diagnostic instrument. This instrument will enable the expansion of the company’s diagnostics portfolio with new panels for the detection of sepsis-causing pathogens and antibiotic-resistance genes. The successful candidate will make critical contributions to the mechanical design of the instrument, subsystems and peripherals. This position reports to the Senior Manager, Hardware Engineering.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design and develop mechanical and electromechanical components and subsystems for IVD instruments.
- Perform design V&V and generate supporting documentation.
- Collaborate closely with the software and systems engineering teams to achieve project goals.
- Create detailed documentation of new and revised products including part and assembly drawings, bills of materials, and purchasing specifications.
- Lead and participate in design reviews for new or revised products.
- Initiate and process Engineering Change Orders (ECO) per established procedures.
- Provide troubleshooting and technical support to manufacturing.
- Support multiple project deadlines and changing priorities for deliverables.
- Perform root cause analysis on assigned customer complaints.
- Work with suppliers to identify cost reduction opportunities.
- Mentor junior engineers.
- Adhere to established procedures under T2’s Quality System.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- B.S. / M.S. in Mechanical Engineering with 7+ years of relevant experience.
- Experience designing parts and assemblies for robotics and electro-mechanical systems required.
- Proficient in mechanical analysis, including tolerance, structural and thermal.
- Motion control systems development, debugging and problem solving is desirable.
- Familiar with manufacturing methods and material selection.
- Experience with Design for Manufacture and Assembly is a plus.
- Advanced SolidWorks skills are required.
- Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).
