The New York Genome Center (NYGC) is an independent, nonprofit, academic research organization dedicated to advancing genomic research. NYGC scientists and staff are furthering new approaches to diagnosing and treating neurological diseases and cancer through their unique capabilities in whole genome sequencing, RNA sequencing, state-of-the art analytics, and the development of genomic tools. NYGC concentrates specifically on disease-based research in the following areas: neuropsychiatric disease (autism, schizophrenia, bipolar); neurodegenerative disease (ALS, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, Huntington’s), and cancer.
Located in Lower Manhattan, the New York Genome Center was founded by and remains closely affiliated with twelve leading academic medical centers and research universities in the New York region and beyond, engaging in research projects with and for these institutions. Essential to our collaborative work is an outstanding faculty, whose members typically hold a joint appointment at NYGC and a partner university. They support our scientific mission by conducting independent research in areas of mutual interest to us and the wider scientific community.

POSITION DESCRIPTION
This position requires hands on knowledge of LAN/WAN networking and devices as well as operating systems and server technologies. The candidate must have a thorough knowledge of industry hardware types and interoperability, and a basic understanding of application software is necessary.
In this role, the incumbent must be proactive in addressing network issues and updates, testing and sharing results. The successful candidate will be a customer service oriented individual with the ability to explain technical details to non-technical personnel, a knack for problem solving and ability to be resourceful in a high-pressure situation, the ability to follow SOPs, documentation and work guidelines as well as other departmental procedures required. Good documentation skills are a must.
POSITION DUTIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
Support WAN/LAN infrastructure;
Ability to configure and support IP video conferencing and IP phone service;
Configure/maintain/administer the following environments:
Maintain circuit availability for all sites, maintain and periodically test redundant failover, and monitor all network devices;
Dress, terminate and test cables and components including CAT6 and fiber optic cabling;
Identify, track and remove abandoned cable, and keep cable neatly tied and bundled;
Test, locate, install, and repair network infrastructure associated with trouble calls, and performs routine maintenance;
Appropriately document the network environment and configuration changes;
Identify and mitigate security risks; work with management to improve technologies; must stay on top of the latest issues and technologies;
Perform hardware repairs, monitor systems proactively and responds to alerts;
Maintain monitoring tools and ensure all sites are up to date with monitoring information;
Liaise closely with other internal groups to establish bandwidth requirements, resiliency requirements to support applications infrastructure; and,
Work closely with desktop support representatives to provide technical guidance.
