    FACILITIES SERVICES - CUSTODIANS invites applications for a FACILITIES SUPERVISOR I to join their team on campus. This position acts as a lead worker of a custodial crew to ensure quality custodial service is being delivered on a consistent basis. Performs work of lower level positions and under MINIMAL supervision, provides direct customer service to members of the campus and to the community at large. Builds and maintains a work atmosphere of trust and respect by establishing open communication among team members; recognizing the value of individual differences at all levels of the organization; taking steps to prevent destructive conflict and handling conflict in an appropriate manner; listening and responding appropriately to the needs, feelings and capabilities of all individuals; and providing support and assistance to team members. 

     

    This role supervises and performs _ADVANCED _custodial work or responsibilities that are highly complex in nature (ex: deep clean, polish, seal, finish, etc. any type of flooring on a consistent basis); submits time and material estimates for special projects; performs _MULTIPLE SPECIALIZED DUTIES _including:

    • Acts as special projects team leader
    • Acts as designated trainer in multiple areas of custodial expertise
    • Performs specialized floor cleaning and refinishing

     

    DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC DUTIES: 

    The Facilities Supervisor I position:

    • Provides professionalism, leadership and supervision to the custodial crew.
    • Understands the University Mission, environment and overall function.
    • Supervises a student custodial crew of up to 12 part-time Student Custodians to ensure quality custodial services is being delivered on a consistent basis.
    • Understands and follows custodial policies and procedures
    • Has a thorough knowledge of their building assignment(s)
    • Uses Crew Cleaning to ensure custodial operations are efficient and effective
    • Communicates critical information to Facilities Supervisor II’s
    • Provides quality customer service to the building staff, faculty, students, and the general public
    • Establishes positive communication with co-workers, staff, faculty, students, and the general public
    • Provides feedback concerning team members
    • Participates in regular meetings and safety trainings
    • Participates in weekly staff leadership meetings.
    • Ensures crew operates in a safe manner
    • Is able to prioritize cleaning if short-handed
    • Organizes work space including closets and storage
    • Ensures proper use and maintenance of custodial equipment
    • Has knowledge of green cleaning methods and the environmental impact of cleaning
    • Ensures fire extinguishers are checked on a monthly basis
    • Fill floor drains monthly
    • Monitors supplies inventory and submits order requests in a timely manner
    • Turn in paperwork as requested
    • Report building irregularities
    • Understand key protocols and building security

     

    CUSTODIAL DUTIES:  

    • Clean and sanitize restroom surfaces and fixtures
    • Collect trash
    • Stock University paper and soap dispensers
    • Vacuum carpeted areas
    • Sweep and mop floors including stairs
    • Sanitize high touch surfaces
    • Damp dust horizontal surfaces
    • Change University lights
    • Clean chalkboards and whiteboards in teaching areas
    • Replace dry erase markers, chalk, and erasers as needed
    • Clean classroom tabletops
    • Spot clean walls as needed
    • Clean public garbage cans as needed
    • Clean carpet stains as needed
    • Clean entryways including glass (weather permitting)
    • Sweep outside entryways (weather permitting)
    • Remove snow/ice from building entryways when needed
    • Clean drinking fountains, sinks, and elevators
    • Clean classroom furniture
    • Clean ceiling vents
    • Remove gum as needed
    • Accessible University carpets extracted as needed
    • Accessible University interior public glass cleaned as needed
    • Accessible hard floors cleaned, polished or refinished as needed
    • Reachable University light fixtures cleaned as needed
    • Any additional cleaning duties

    Physical Requirements

    (Qualified candidates must be able to meet minimum requirements and perform the primary functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.)

    • Lifting: Ground to 60 inches, up to 35 lbs. Ground to 30 inches, 50 lbs.
    • Carrying: Front carry up to 35 lbs. for 50 feet or less.
    • Pushing and pulling forces required (pushing and pulling materials, and during the use of tools): 30 lbs. sustained.
    • Repetitive squatting on both even and uneven surfaces.
    • 1-minute overhead work from various positions (standing, crouching, or kneeling) with 5 lbs.
    • Static forward bending from a standing, crouching or kneeling position while using tools.
    • Trunk rotation from a standing or kneeling position.
    • Balancing when climbing and working on a ladder.
    • Walking various distances, continuously, throughout the day on even and uneven surfaces.
    • Use of various grip circumferences and strengths as well as static grip positions during the use of various tools (4 1/2" to 5 1/2" circumference needing an average of 50 lbs. of grip force) and while manipulating various work materials (maximum 100 lbs.).

    Minimum Required Experience

    • High School diploma and four (4) years of progressively responsible custodial experience and one (1) year of progressively responsibly supervisory experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
    • Valid Montana Driver’s License

    WORK SCHEDULE:                 Full-time, 1.0 FTE (40 Hours a week), Monday through Friday 3:30 pm to 12:00 am, 12 months/year. Position requires an alternative work schedule.

    SALARY:                                $18.135/HR_._

    PROBATIONARY PERIOD:        Six months minimum
