  • Responsibilities

    Under general supervision, responsible for performing complex system administration duties which ensure the effective technical design, provisioning, installation, configuration, operation and maintenance of mission critical enterprise systems. Serves as technical expert in the area of systems administration for Microsoft Exchange, Active Directory, Windows Server, VMWare and capacity planning.

    Essential Functions

    • Performs complex administration duties such as analyzing feasibility of system requirements, develops new system and application implementation plans, creates custom scripts and testing procedures to ensure operations reliability, reviews security monitoring to identify any possible intrusions.
    • Installs, configures, maintains and administers storage systems; proactively monitors storage availability and I/O performance; troubleshoots storage problems, identifies root causes and develops solutions; supports storage planning and design, product upgrade and evaluation.
    • Plans and performs systems preventative maintenance and network protection utilities. Identifies, configures and installs patches, upgrades and add-ons to mission critical servers and business systems.
    • Documents server software installations, server hardware configurations, network connectivity and storage configurations.
    • Provides Tier 3 infrastructure support upon request; investigates and troubleshoots issues both independently and coordinated through vendor support channels.
    • Creates and maintains Active Directory user profiles, accounts, security membership and computer object settings and permissions; responds to tier 2 escalation of active directory incidents to include user impact service outages; troubleshoots and resolves authentication issues which includes workstation and server domain membership, and DNS settings.
    • Provides training and guidance, and reviews work of less senior staff.

    • Advanced skills in Active Directory and Windows design, with ability to manage and administer replication, ensuring the proper assignment and configuration of master roles, configuring forest-wide Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) and managing and administering domain controller security policies.
    • Expert knowledge of the protocols and tools for systems preventative maintenance and network protection utilities, with ability to successfully implement them.
    • In-depth knowledge of firewalls and their configuration including the administration of Network Address Translations (NAT) protocol.
    • Expert knowledge of current viruses and spam sources, and ability to implement defense mechanisms.
    • Expert knowledge of VMWare including the ability to configure and administer SAN and NAS storage, Vmotion, workstation and server provisioning, and OS patching.
    • Expert knowledge of backup protocols and their design, and ability to implement them.

    Expert knowledge of hardware components and their purposes, including RAID, asynchronous operations and multi-processor systems.

    Required Experience

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems or similar; and
    • At least six years in systems administration, including installation, maintenance and support; and
    • At least six years working with modern storage technologies such as SAN, RAID, NAS, fiber channels, storage mirroring/replication, clustered systems, LUN management.
    • At least six years installing, configuring and allocating resources in a virtual environment; and
    • At least six years installing and configuring services (UCS Chassis, blades, HP and standalone); and
    • Experience in storage management; or
    • Equivalent combination of education and experience.

     

    Licensure, Certification, Registration
