GENERAL PURPOSE: The Pharmacy Technician is responsible for receiving and responding to calls from both provider/physician offices and pharmacies. Enters pharmacy overrides into the RxClaims system based on approved guidelines and approvals from Clinical Pharmacists. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: * Receives and responds to calls from physicians, pharmacies and members on a timely basis. * Enters Utilization Management overrides into the RXClaims system on a timely basis. * Responds to requests from members and other issues. * Reviews member profiles for cost effective alternatives and calls physicians with recommendations for changing therapies, and prepares denial letters for approval by Pharmacists. * Follows utilization management guidelines to make decisions on approvals and/or denials on various drug products that are not in our formulary plans. * Performs other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required; minimum of two years related experience in pharmacy operations managed care, hospital and/or retail environments required; appeals and grievance experience preferred; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to: work from designated office for collaborative/interactive fulfillment of duties; concentrate in an open-office ?cubicle? environment; appropriately and directly interact with other staff members and/or outside associates; perform telephone and/or computer work for extended periods of time; operate office equipment such as computer, telephone, and copy/scan/fax machine; attend and participate in meetings via phone, computer, or in person. * Ability to use pharmaceutical references. * Working knowledge of prescription medications and pharmacotherapy. * Ability to evaluate information from both oral and written sources and pharmaceutical references, and to report information to Pharmacists. * Solid analytical skills and attention to detail. * Time management and confidentiality a must. * Effective and excellent oral and written communication skills including good grammar, voice and diction. * Ability to navigate and master proprietary software programs. * Intermediate proficiency with MS Office with basic keyboarding skills. LICENSING AND CERTIFICATION: Certified Pharmacy Technician preferred but not required.
