  • Responsibilities

    The Bioautomation Specialist and Lab Manager will provide hands-on support for the automation software and hardware within the BU Clinical Testing Laboratory.  They will maintain and troubleshoot methods on the automated laboratory instruments in collaboration with the Vendors and the R&D Personnel for the lab. 

    In addition, they will perform Lab Manager tasks as needed for the Clinical Testing Laboratory core functions and provide the Lab Manager Supervisor role for Team 1, 2, or 3 when the regular Lab Manager is not available to manage a shift.

    Required Skills

    • Masters Degree in Software Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or Biology required, advanced oral and writing skills
    • 5-8 years of work experience. Experience with scripting and/or a programming language preferably Python, C, or C++. Familiarity with molecular biology, assay development, and sample preparation is a plus.
    • Develop and sustain technical knowledge of automation hardware and software related to biomolecular techniques. Experience must include hands-on experience with automation software and hardware, specifically automated liquid handling devices.
    • Serve as the point person working with vendors on platform incidents and problem resolution. Experience with Hamilton robots and Venus software with the ability to learn and adapt to new workflows is a plus.
    • Develop and maintain updates to relevant training materials for the platform and project teams. Works with stakeholders to ensure that platform capabilities meet the requirements, provide fit/gap analysis, and assist with implementing solutions.
    • Stay abreast of relevant related platform technologies and proactively investigate them for use within the BU context.
    • Familiarity with molecular biology, assay development, and sample preparation is a plus.
