    Boston University’s Marketing & Communications division is seeking a Creative Director to lead the print design and photography units of the University’s internal design agency and shape the brand by providing leadership and direction for high-quality content, design, and visual communication in alignment with the vision of the BU brand. Heading an award-winning team of a dozen print designers, writers, and photographers, the Creative Director reports to the Vice President of Marketing & Creative Services and is responsible for the conceptual development of the University’s high profile print publications.

     

    The CD delivers ideas that enhance and increases the University’s reputation by managing the strategy and execution of graphic design and content marketing for major academic and business units across campus. Responsible for high quality and ensures that brand standards are met from initial concepts through completed projects. This role will work to highlight BU’s strategic priorities and institutional values, including academic and research advancement and a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. This position has extensive scope throughout many high-visibility areas of the University. The Creative Director is responsible for researching emerging trends in design and establishing high-quality standards throughout the University.

    Required Skills

    B.A./B.S. with eight plus years of directly related experience including a minimum of five years' experience leading a marketing and design team and preferably in an agency environment and eight years of related experience. Demonstrated creative ability, presentation and communication skills with an outstanding portfolio of print design. Experience overseeing and directing the work of designers, writers, photographers, and other team members. Personnel management skills, including the recruiting of talent and fostering of a highly productive studio culture essential. Superb time management and project management skills. Innovative and creative thinking with the ability to take the lead in developing visual design excellence in print publications. Outstanding attention to detail. Excellent interpersonal skills, and ability to collaboratively lead across teams. Requires flexibility and adaptability to new technology in a changing environment. Requires ability to prioritize multiple projects. Ability to work well under pressure and on high visibility projects. Adobe Creative Cloud, particularly Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign expertise required. Digital workflow such as InCopy experience a plus.

     

    May require work outside normal business hours.
