    PATH is currently recruiting for a Communications Officer to envision and implement activities to achieve PATH’s cross-cutting policy and advocacy goals. The Communications Officer will report to the Strategic Communications Manager and support the Advocacy & Public Policy (APP) department’s advocacy with the US government and global/multilateral bodies as well as advocacy work across PATH via an indirect reporting line to the US Global Policy and Advocacy Manager. This person will support grant-funded APP work as well as institutional advocacy (global and US-focused).

    PATH's Advocacy and Public Policy (APP) department works to improve global health by increasing awareness and support of global health priorities by working with policymakers, coalitions, and other influential individuals and groups.

     

    Responsibilities:

    • Conceive and implement a variety of advocacy and communication activities to inform and influence policymakers, decision-makers, thought leaders, advocates and influencers, in the U.S. and globally, to achieve advocacy objectives and increase visibility of reproductive, maternal, newborn, and child health (RMNCH), immunization, primary health care (PHC), research and development (R&D) and other PATH priorities.

    • Conceive and write versatile communications products on RMNCH, immunization, R&D and other topics and policies – including fact sheets, commentaries, blogs, op-eds, press releases, policy briefs, policy papers, talking points, case studies and digital content packages (web, social media and multimedia).

    • Conduct in-depth research and analysis and monitor news and data from across the global health sector to inform PATH positions and thought leadership on topics related to RMNCH, immunization, PHC, R&D and other topics and policies.

    • Ensure communications are appropriate and compelling for the intended audience and purpose, are clearly and effectively organized and written, and are consistent with organizational goals, priorities, and standards.

    • Liaise with PATH technical and policy experts to ensure the objectives, accuracy and content of advocacy and communication strategies and related materials.

    • Collaborate on the production process with in-house and contract graphic designers on materials requiring professional design.

    • Support DC-based events including event design, speaker management, logistics, etc.

    • Develop productive internal and external relationships with advocates, sector communications peers, health specialists and donors and to achieve advocacy goals, including through participation in various global health sector working groups.

    • In collaboration with advocacy department leadership, contribute to the design of new programming and write proposals to support business development, as well as content to position PATH’s advocacy expertise to new and potential donors.

    Required Skills Required Experience

     

    • Bachelor’s degree in public health, public policy, communications or related field plus a minimum of five years of relevant experience in advocacy or communications required.

    • Experience in global health or development preferred.

    • Experience creating and producing versatile communications products for global health or development, or that target policymakers in the U.S., at multilateral institutions, or in developing countries.

    • Demonstrated experience preparing and carrying out effective advocacy and communication activities to achieve results.

    • Advanced writing and editing skills in a variety of styles, including proposals, for use across print and digital formats.

    • Ability to translate technical, policy and complex topics into compelling advocacy agendas and communication products.

    • Ability to work productively with policy and technical experts.

    • Ability to deliver quality work on deadline in a fast-paced environment.

    • Demonstrated ability to juggle multiple assignments and interact with varied work teams with minimal supervision to produce strong results.

    • Team-oriented and ability to facilitate productive working relationships inside and outside the organization and across cultures and geographies.

    • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, with attention to detail.

    • Flexible and adaptable to changing priorities.

    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

    • Must have legal authorization to work in the United States.
