    BUILDING MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN, BARRINGTON, IL

    Advocate Good Shepherd Health & Fitness Center, Full-time, M-F 7AM-3:30PM

     

    ADVOCATE GOOD SHEPHERD HEALTH & FITNESS CENTER, managed by HEALTHFITNESS, has a new opportunity for a full-time BUILDING MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN to join the growing team at our medically based Health and Fitness Center located in BARRINGTON, IL.  In this role, you will operate, repair and maintain power, heat, plumbing and cooling distribution systems including all pools and systems for the safe and proper operation of elevators and fire alarm systems. You'll also perform various general maintenance tasks. Monday-Friday schedule with infrequent weekend hours!

     

    FACILITES & MAINTENANCE NEEDS ONSITE:

    BOILER ROOM:

    • Starts, stops, inspects, and tests boiler room equipment and water. Observes meters and gauges and documents activities according to established schedules, policies, procedures, and safety regulations. Properly manipulates valves and other controls to meet specifications and regulate flow of water and fuel to meet needs for steam.

    FACILITY:

    • Checks mechanical rooms at prescribed intervals to ensure safety regulations are met and efficient operations maintained. Document inspections according to department policies and procedures. Completes monthly, quarterly, semiannual and annual inspections according to established protocols.
    • Changes all lights inside and outside of facility and performs all maintenance to ensure all light fixtures are working at all times.
    • Performs maintenance tasks including painting, carpentry, plumbing and electrical as assigned. Assists in housekeeping of locker rooms and club as necessary.
    • Checks, inspects and completes necessary repairs & preventative maintenance on washers and dryers to ensure consistent operation.
    • Reviews Facility Tracker and updates daily to track progress toward assigned tasks and goals.
    • Works with Fire Department and all certification organizations to ensure safety of the facility.
    • Assists with special projects as required including moving and storage of equipment, furniture etc., exterior building maintenance, light carpentry, exercise equipment repair and painting and patching of walls.

    SUPPLIES/INVENTORY:

    • Checks supplies needed at prescribed intervals and informs appropriate personnel of need to order in order to maintain adequate inventory levels. Keeps back of the house areas organized.

    POOL/FITNESS:

    • Cleans, back washes, drain and refill whirlpool, therapy Pool and lap pools as scheduled to maintain consistent operation. Performs preventive maintenance on all swimming pools, whirlpools, saunas and steam rooms as scheduled.
    • Monitors chemical levels in all pools and maintains appropriate levels as provided by State of Illinois Department of Public Health. Maintains appropriate records of pool chemical levels and maintains pool operator’s certification.
    • Performs maintenance on fitness equipment as required.

    HVAC:

    • Mechanical rooms and building automation. Manages temperature control for the entire building.
    • Lubricates and replaces belts for HVAC units. Replaces filters as needed.
    • Properly repairs or maintains steam lines and other fixtures related to heating equipment. Maintains, repairs and calibrates temperature controls and filtration equipment to maintain proper balance of systems.

    PLUMBING/PIPE FITTING:

    • Identifies and locates source(s) of problems in plumbing and other pipe systems. Properly installs plumbing fixtures. Repairs and maintains plumbing or pipe systems such as water, sewage and air lines.
    • Checks, inspects and ensures appropriate function of all showers, sinks, toilets and urinals within the facility. Performs preventive maintenance and repairs of all showers, sinks, toilets and urinals within the facility. Performs preventive maintenance on all drain systems within the facility.
    • Maintains steam generation systems for steam rooms are 100% functional at all times.

     

    WHAT YOU'LL NEED & ROLE REQUIREMENTS:

    • High school diploma or GED is required & 3-5 years of hands-on facilities experience.
    • Experience tending various types of boilers leading to high pressure boilers and auxiliary equipment required. Training and/or experience in the operation, maintenance and repair of specialized equipment, fixtures or systems related to heating, ventilating, air conditioning, plumbing, piping and/or swimming pools required.
    • Use of computerized energy management and preventive maintenance systems required.
    • Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification required within 90 days of hire.
    • Adult CPR/AED certifications from American Heart Association, American Red Cross or American Safety & Health Institute required within 90 days.
    • Ability to prioritize tasks and budget time for timely completion of assigned duties in appropriate sequence and determine when assistance is needed for safe performance of job duties. Skills to trouble-shoot equipment in order to determine reason(s) for and repairs needed.
    • Must be able to work within set standards when carrying out job duties and determine and select supplies and equipment suitable for tasks assigned.
    • Ideal candidates will have completed a trade school or vocational school program and have electrical and/or plumbing training and experience.

  • Qualifications
    • Bachelor's Degree required, Master's Degree preferred in business management, finance or a directly related field
    • Three to five years of experience in operations and systems management preferably in an academic setting.
    • Experience with SEVIS or other immigration systems preferred.
    • Requires superior operational and project management skills.
    • Requires strong analytical and organization skills to manage complicated system development projects within specific deadlines.
    • Familiarity with computer hardware and software, including Microsoft Office Professional or similar applications.
