    DESCRIPTION:

    The Department of Engineering and Computer Science in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the Azusa Pacific University invites applications for a faculty position in Computer Science at the assistant or associate professor level. The Department offers Bachelor of Science degrees in three majors: Engineering, Computer Science (CS), and Computer Information Systems (CIS). The CS/CIS programs offer comprehensive coverage of the fundamentals of the discipline and upper-level electives in areas like software engineering, mobile apps, artificial intelligence and machine learning, Internet of Things, distributed computing, and computer network security. The current opening is primarily aimed to fill a need in the CS/CIS program track, with a preferred skillset in the areas of software engineering, mobile applications, and machine learning, but all other specialties within the CS/CIS disciplines will be considered. This position also offers the potential for collaboration in the Computer Engineering track within the Engineering program. In addition, there is potential for administrative appointment. 

    The Department places very strong emphasis on excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level but research and scholarly activities are also expected. There are plans being developed for growing into the graduate level. The faculty members are also expected to be role models to the students in practicing their Christian faith in the contexts of their Engineering and Computer Science professions.

     

    SPECIALIZATION: 

    Any of the areas within the CS/CIS disciplines, with preference for expertise in Software Engineering, Mobile Applications, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Internet of Things, or cybersecurity.

     

    RESPONSIBILITIES: 

    • Develop and teach upper- and lower-division lecture and lab courses in Computer Science and related disciplines
    • Maintain an active research agenda
    • Participate in recruitment, mentoring and academic advising of undergraduate students
    • ENGAGE IN DEPARTMENT AND UNIVERSITY SERVICE
    • Potential for administrative appointment

      

    LEVEL: Assistant or Associate Professor

     

    QUALIFICATIONS:  

    • A Ph.D. in Computer Science or a closely related discipline is required. Ph.D. candidates with ABD status are welcome to apply
    • A bachelor’s degree in computer Science or a closely related discipline from an accredited institution is strongly preferred
    • Teaching experience, especially in undergraduate CS courses, is strongly preferred.
    • Evidence of coursework in or industry exposure to any of the emerging new applications areas in computer science is highly desirable
    • Ability to engage in the Computer Engineering concentration in the Engineering program is desirable.

     

    EXPERIENCE:  

    • Experience in or commitment to working with students of diverse backgrounds is required
    • Teaching experience at the college or university level in a student-centered environment is strongly preferred
    • Work experience in the computer industry is highly desirable
    • ENGAGEMENT IN PROFESSIONAL AND SCHOLARLY ACTIVITIES IS DESIRABLE
    • Evidence of collegial teamwork, including collaboration with colleagues across traditional disciplinary boundaries is desirable
