    The HVAC Instructor provides technical instruction and guidance in the field of residential and commercial heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems. This evening teaching position is ideal for an experienced HVAC professional who is passionate about mentoring students and helping them develop hands-on skills for immediate employment in the industry.

    The successful candidate will teach classes from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM , engage in curriculum development, assess student learning, support industry partnerships, and promote student success through hands-on and theoretical instruction. This role supports the growing need for skilled trades professionals in our community and requires or will require eligibility for an Idaho Career-Technical Postsecondary teaching credential.

    The successful candidate will work with the Program Manager to facilitate the learning process by designing and implementing appropriate, meaningful and equitable instructional activities, while evaluating student learning by creating and applying well-designed assessment tools. This will be accomplished through curriculum development, program review, mentoring of students, and in collaboration with community and industry for successful placement into the workforce.

    The successful candidate will assist students to connect with academic and non-academic support services as needed; engage in institutional service, professional development, and other duties assigned by the Department Chair and Dean.


    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Teach evening courses covering HVAC principles, system design, installation, maintenance, diagnostics, and repair.
    • Instruct students on residential and commercial HVAC equipment including furnaces, heat pumps, air conditioners, refrigeration units, and ventilation systems.
    • Incorporate safe work practices and environmental guidelines, including handling of refrigerants, EPA requirements, and energy efficiency standards.
    • Use a combination of lecture, hands-on lab work, and digital tools such as Canvas for instruction.
    • Monitor student performance, provide constructive feedback, and promote retention and completion.
    • Maintain and manage tools, lab equipment, and instructional materials.
    • Collaborate with faculty and staff to review curriculum, align instruction with industry expectations, and ensure student learning outcomes are met.
    • Participate in ongoing professional development and maintain industry certifications.
    • Build connections with local employers and participate in industry advisory committees.
    • Complete administrative tasks including syllabi updates, grade reporting, and participation in college and departmental initiatives.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Significant experience in HVAC installation, diagnostics, and service.
    • Eligibility to obtain an Idaho CTE teaching credential (see cte.idaho.gov).
    • Familiarity with HVAC tools, diagnostic equipment, and applicable safety practices.
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to engage adult learners.
    • Computer proficiency and willingness to use technology for teaching and record-keeping.

    Preferred Skills and Experience:

    • Associate degree or higher in HVAC Technology or related field.
    • EPA Section 608 Certification (Universal preferred).
    • Certification in systems such as 410A refrigerant, heat pump diagnostics, and electrical troubleshooting.
    • Experience working with diverse populations and supporting student success in technical education.
    • Teaching experience or formal industry training experience is desirable.
    • Knowledge of advanced HVAC systems including variable refrigerant flow (VRF), mini splits, smart thermostats, and green building technologies.

    Working Conditions:

    Instruction is delivered on-site in a classroom and lab environment from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM on weekday evenings. The role involves hands-on equipment demonstrations, lab setup, and regular use of HVAC tools and systems. Some lifting (up to 50 lbs.) and movement of equipment is required.
