    Live and work on the beautiful Greenbrier River in Lewisburg, WV, with the oldest girls camp in the Virginias! In everything we do, we believe girls need healthy self-esteem and their own, individual voice to confidently navigate life’s challenges.

    The Head of LIT runs our 6-week program for 16 year olds at Camp. This leadership program includes an off-site backpacking trip, lifeguard certification, community service in and out of Camp, event planning, teaching, and more. During the LIT summer, participants perform counselor duties like supervising younger campers or leading and teaching a new camp activity. They give back to camp and the local community through service projects that they help design. They experience multiple opportunities to step out of their comfort zone and become more resilient, confident young women through activities like group wilderness hikes, learning to change the oil in a car, or public speaking, among other things.

    Requirements:

    • Female
    • Age 21+
    • Live on site June 13th-August 7th
    • Desire to positively impact the lives of young women
    • Possess a passion to empower women, because empowered women empower women
    • Be open to new experiences and a rustic lifestyle
    • Experience working with teenagers
    • Lifeguard Certification
    • Ability to drive 15 passenger van (will train)
    • Strong organization and time management skills

    Preferred:

    • Low Ropes Course experience (will train)
    • Lifeguard Instructor Certification (will subsidize training)

    Pay and Benefits:

    • $3,600 for the summer
    • Room, board, and laundry are included
    • Staff Training and Professional Development throughout the summer
    • Time off (1 day/week)

    Responsibilities:

    • Oversee all aspects of the LIT Program
    • Build strong, personal relationships with participants individually and as a group
    • Lead daily classes and projects with the LITs, following previous lesson plans and creating new, innovative lessons.
    • Ensure participants are engaged, learning, and growing in a safe, productive setting
    • Lead and organize service projects in and out of Camp
    • Support and mentor LITs emotionally and intellectually
    • Work Closely with the Program Director in planning and implementation of the program
    • Coordinate with Office Manager and Directors on travel logistics and out of camp trips
    • Lead Lifeguarding Course
    • Help LITs plan, organize and implement multiple events at Camp
    • Offer constructive feedback, both formal and informal to each participant throughout the summer
    • Teach and build transferable life skills that will aid the participant in future roles, whether in-camp jobs or out-of-camp opportunities including internships, community leadership, and other jobs
    • Be Fully Connected at Camp (very limited access to cell phones and data driven devices)
    • Build legitimate, transferable skills that will look great on a resume
    • Create lifelong friendships
