    CARB-X, a Boston University Global Partnership, has an exciting opportunity for a talented individual to join our core team at Boston University in the role of Alliance Manager. CARB-X is a new organization located at the BU School of Law, focused on accelerating the pre-clinical development of drugs, vaccines and diagnostics to address antibiotic resistance. Approximately $500M has already been committed to this work, and CARB-X has more than 30 innovative therapeutic and diagnostic projects in its rapidly growing portfolio. CARB-X brings a holistic approach to working with companies to help them succeed, tapping into a worldwide pool of experts in science, drug discovery and development, and operational effectiveness.     The Alliance Manager is a new role on the growing R&D team of CARB-X, providing scientific and business planning, technical support and assessment to a select group (sub-portfolio) of Product Developers across the entire life-cycle of CARB-X projects. The Alliance Manager will play an important role in the review of the scientific proposals and organizational capabilities of the applicants, helping CARB-X to select a few projects to fund out of the large number of applications received. When a Product Developer enters the CARB-X portfolio, the Alliance Manager will serve as the leader for support and oversight. The Alliance Manager will proactively identify potential future issues and develop mitigation plans, escalating concerns with proposed solutions for those concerns, to leadership. The Alliance Manager will steward transitions for the Product Developers, including Go/No-Go investment decisions, milestone reviews, down selections, and graduations. The Alliance Manager will contribute significantly to continuous improvements to CARB-X processes related to applicants and Product Developers. They will be an ambassador for CARB-X to the external community – interested applicants, portfolio companies, external experts and other stakeholders. The Alliance Manager will report to an Alliance Director as part of a portfolio management team. 

     

    CARB-X is a fast-paced environment where creativity, flexibility, and collaboration are essential. In this role, you will work as part of a dedicated CARB-X core team and with BU central offices, to achieve goals and maximize the overall effectiveness of the program. You will interact with diverse product development teams and accelerator partners, U.S. and other governmental and non-governmental funding partners, and the global anti-microbial resistance community.

     

    This is a full-time, grant-funded position, located on the Charles River Campus of Boston University. CARB-X is currently in Year 4 of 5 of its principal grant funding.

     

    This position does not qualify for temporary non immigrant sponsorship so only US citizens or permanent US residents will be considered. 

     

    Required Skills

    PHD preferred, Master's required. At least 5-8 years experience managing biotech projects and/or business development or technology transfer experience in the biotech or nonprofit environment. Experience with reviewing and processing grant applications an advantage. Experience with scientific Research and Development to combat infectious diseases, especially drug discovery or diagnostic development phases through initial clinical trials, will be a significant advantage.

     

    Additional Core Competencies: Ability to lead teams of diverse partners who are distributed geographically and across various levels of seniority and disciplines (scientists, clinicians, business, legal, finance, etc). Demonstrated track record as constructive, collaborative and professional in all settings. Effective verbal and written communication skills, to capably represent a professional, well-regarded global organization. Demonstrated negotiation skills with a focus on win-win solutions. Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously. Flexibility to work in a fast paced and dynamic work environment comparable to a start-up biotech, balanced with the processes and culture of a large academic institution. Familiarity with the organization and processes of the pharmaceutical, biotechnology or health care industries. Committed team player; sense of humor and flexibility.
