    The Department of Communication Studies invites applications for adjunct faculty to teach courses in Interpersonal, Small Group, and Organizational Communication at the undergraduate level.

     

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    The primary responsibility of adjunct faculty is to deliver instruction in the manner determined by the department in courses including, but not limited to Communication Theory, Research Methods in Communication, Interpersonal Communication, Persuasion and Attitude Change, Organizational Communication, Small Group Communication, and Writing for Communication.  In addition, faculty responsibilities may include:

     

    • Adhere and teach to the Course Learning Objectives and curriculum for assigned classes as established in the Communication Studies and Journalism Curriculum Guide.

    • Preparation of syllabi in compliance with the APU Faculty Guidelines for Undergraduate Course Syllabi.

    • Complete an Individual Development Educational Assessment (IDEA) for each course taught.

    • Determine student mastery of material and assign final course grades from evaluation of tests, quizzes, homework, and other assignments and activities related to course material. Submit grades according the University procedures and deadlines.

    • Adhere to the policies and regulations of Azusa Pacific University as set forth in the Adjunct Contract.

    • Being available to students outside of classroom hours via email or telephone for a set number of hours per week.

    • Participation in departmental activities as identified by the department chair or program director.

    • Responsible for daily electronic timekeeping as it applies to the scope of this position.

     

     

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Must have a master’s or terminal degree in the field of COMMUNICATION STUDIES.

    • Preferred experience includes teaching at the college or university level.

    • The ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds.

    • A demonstrated, vibrant Christian faith compatible with the mission of Azusa Pacific University.

     

    WORKLOAD

    Assigned teaching duties will not exceed 9 units per semester; office hours and additional duties may be assigned. Total workload will not exceed 29 hours per week, nor 24 units per 12-month period.

    Required Skills Required Experience

  • Qualifications

    MINIMUM:

    • B.S. or M.S (Preferred) in discipline such as Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Systems Engineering, Software Engineering.
    • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role (prefer federally regulated software development)
    • Proven firmware or embedded software development experience.
    • Familiar with firmware principles, theories, concepts, techniques and architecture.
    • Embedded system hardware knowledge and development environment familiarity is required.
    • Proficient in embedded algorithm development per medical device standards.
    • Strong coding skills using C and C++. 
    • Familiarity with ARM Cortex microprocessors (M4 and M7)
    • Experience developing firmware for serial interfaces: SPI, I2C, UART and CAN bus
    • Experienced in embedded system design, testing and debugging and be familiar with embedded firmware development environments.
    • Experience with Quantum Leaps QP Framework preferred.
    • Strong experience using emulators/debuggers to develop/debug embedded system firmware applications.
    • Medical device development experience and IEC62304 and related IEC standard familiarity preferred.
    • Strong problem solving and analytical skills. 
    • Ability to work independently with team members from various disciplines, e.g. hardware, mechanical, quality, regulatory, etc. 
    • Team player with effective verbal and written communication skills. 
    • Technical writing skills, ability to develop reports for technology development, document software requirements, design and architecture, and review/update software development lifecycle procedures.
    • Ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously
    • Experience with Agile/Scrum methodology is required.  Ability to serve as a Scrum Master is strongly desired.
    • Knowledge and experience with digital signal processing and motor control algorithm is desired.
