    Position Details Position Information Position Title Biorepository and Laboratory Assistant Campus IUPUI - Indianapolis Department MEDICAL & MOLECULAR GENETICS (IN-MMGE-IUINA) Department Information Job Summary *RE- POSTED * This position will operate under the Indiana University Genetics Biobank ( IUGB ) Biorepository Operations Manager and IUGB Supervisors to perform laboratory services related to specialized specimen processing. Responsibilities include: working with investigators and study coordinators to develop specific protocol requirements for multiple studies (internal and external collaborators); maintenance and monitoring of critical facility equipment used in sample processing; assisting in new equipment validations and startups; and, generating data critical to final equipment reports. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES : Perform routine laboratory procedures in the sample processing laboratory. Procedures include, but are not limited to, sample aliquotting and sub aliquotting, sample QC analysis, extraction of DNA from whole blood, buffy coats, and saliva; extraction of total RNA and miRNA from whole blood; spectrophotometric analysis of DNA and RNA samples; and separation of whole blood components in the rapid processing lab. Expected to design, modify and maintain appropriate documentation of processing activities. Receive sample shipments. Accession samples into Oncore Database and other required systems. Maintain chain of custody tracking thru sample storage locations while processing or in permanent storage locations. Pull samples from locations to prepare for sample distributions. Standardize DNA for shipments. Train in IATA shipping requirements. Ship samples locally and internationally. This position will comply with all established SOPs. Actively participate in SOP revisions in coordination with the appropriate Supervisor or Lead Technologist, Quality Assurance and Safety Supervisor, or, the Biorepository Operations Manager. Required Qualifications REQUIRED : High School Diploma and 3 years of laboratory experience; OR college level science education; OR certification as Clinical Lab Assistant ( CLA ). Ability to use scientific rules for laboratory directives and for troubleshooting; ability to perform routine maintenance of laboratory equipment; strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to prioritize and manage time; able to work on multiple tasks and work well as part of a team. Preferred Qualifications Bachelors Degree in Biology, Chemistry, or Biotechnology is preferred. Working Conditions / Physical Demands Ability to see, hear and speak. Finger dexterity for sample processing, arm-hand steadiness, able to sit/work at laminar flow hood or stand for long periods of time. Equipment utilized: Centrifuges, pipetting devices, vortex, incubators, -80 freezers, LN2 tanks, controlled rate freezers, biologic safety cabinets, and personal computer.
