About the job: This Indiana School for the Deaf is looking for a qualified candidates to fill our full time Residential Mentor positions in our Education and Student Life Divisions. These positions facilitate the care and guidance of students and other youth at the Indiana School for the Deaf to ensure the health, safety and welfare of students in the school. Mentors are assigned students in classroom, residential/leisure settings and other on and off campus areas. This role assists the teachers and/ or deans in providing educational, recreational, leisure and specific skill opportunities in and out of the classroom. Residential Mentors are paid $1088 bi-weekly ($14.51/hour) and work an academic school year schedule, following the ISD academic school year calendar. They are assigned a specific shift. First shift Residential Mentors work as Teacher Assistants and are assigned to a specific Teacher/classroom. Second and third shift Residential Mentors work as Houseparents are and assigned to a specific dorm/students. Day in the life: * Assists in instruction and supervision under supervision of the teacher or supervisor * Supervises students in dormitories, classrooms, lunch rooms and off campus trips * Supervises student housekeeping activities and inspects dorms and living areas for safety and cleanliness * Prepares necessary materials as directed by the teacher and/or supervisor * Supports discipline policy of the classroom/ residential program and assists in monitoring behavior plans * Assists teaching staff and residential supervisors in activities outside the classroom and/or dormitories * Assures that student hygiene, toileting, and safety needs are met * Participates in appropriate professional development * Reinforce and enhance individual student development * Manage dormitories and classrooms by providing a clean, organized and safe living/learning environment * Performs a variety of duties providing for the guidance, care, training, development, and socialization of deaf and physically handicapped or developmentally delayed students * Interact with parents, teachers and other agency personnel to insure program continuity What we are looking for: Valid high school diploma/GED OR two (2) years of experience involving child care or related experience. Must be at least 21 years of age and possess a current valid Driver's license.
