  • Responsibilities

    The Part-Time Learning Specialist position is responsible for providing skills-based tutoring to students enrolled in the College Assistance Program taking baccalaureate level courses at Iona College. The College Assistance Program is open from 8:00am-4:00pm and this position will support students four days/24 hours per week.  The Learning Specialist will report to the Director of the College Assistance Program.

     

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

     

    • Help students to develop compensatory learning and study skills
    • Teach organizational strategies, study strategies, reading and writing skills
    • Conduct individual outreach to students as needed
    • Conduct workshops and/or study groups that related to academic success
    • Maintain an electronic summary of all work done with students
    • Assist with proctoring and testing accommodations
    • Participate in the CAP Summer Transition Program for incoming CAP Freshmen
    • Participate in weekly staff meeting in person or on the phone
    • Participate in ongoing professional development training & Each One Teach One
    • Perform other duties as assigned by Director

     

     

    Required Skills

    REQUIRED EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS

    • Master’s Degree or higher in Education, Learning Disabilities or similar field
    • At least two year’s experience working within the context of special education or with a Learning Disabilities population
    • Experience using Assistive Technology such as Kurzweil, Dragon Naturally Speaking and AccessText
    • Experience working in a post-secondary setting
    • Professional tutoring or teaching experience is a plus
