    The Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) is offering a Fall Internship to a qualified candidate who will support Office of the Chief Science Officer. This paid Internship is a part-time temporary employment opportunity averaging 20-30 hours per week for a postgraduate student. PCORI does not provide housing for out of town residents. All applicants must be eligible to work in the US. Interested parties may apply for internships in multiple departments; please include a specific cover letter for each position.

     

     

    PAY RANGE AND EMPLOYMENT STATUS:

    Interns shall be classified as temporary, part-time employees who are hired as interim replacements, to temporarily supplement the workforce, or to assist in the completion of a specific project and who are temporarily scheduled to work less than PCORI's full-time schedule for a limited duration. Employment beyond any initially stated period does not in any way imply a change in employment status. Temporary, part-time workers are not eligible for PCORI benefits. 

    Current master's level and above students will be paid $20.00 per hour. 

     

    JOB DUTIES:

    As part of the OCSO, the Strategic Initiatives team has responsibility for work in research strategy, portfolio development, and portfolio synthesis and communication to meet the strategic goals of the organization.  This work includes:

    1. Development, implementation, and oversight of strategic priorities and initiatives within the OCSO, Science, and/or other departments at PCORI;
    2. Liaising with and providing information to the PCORI Board of Governors and its strategic committees, including the Science Oversight Committee and the Selection Committee; and
    3. Conducting portfolio synthesis to identify or consider new areas for investment (primary research, evidence synthesis products, or rapid response research); prevent duplication of awards; and to communicate information about the portfolio to external audiences.

    The fall intern will support ongoing portfolio synthesis activities to inform PCORI's strategic choices and communicate important information to stakeholders.  Working with colleagues in OCSO and across the organization, he/she will:

    1. Synthesize information regarding PCORI's current investments in response to strategic needs;
    2. Provide analytic and project support for development of summaries and reports related to data requests; and
    3. Conduct literature reviews, as needed, to inform portfolio synthesis work.

    This position requires strong project management skills including careful attention to details, personal initiative, creativity, and flexibility.

    Required Skills

    The ideal intern candidate will have:

    • Health research experience, including previous experience drafting technical reports or manuscripts.
    • Experience using datasets a plus
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills. 
    • Experience with Word and Excel.
    • Experience with PowerPoint, including creation of graphic presentations of data.
    • Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills; collegial, energetic, able to develop productive relationships with colleagues.
    • The ability to think creatively to address requests and solve problems.
    • Personal motivation to support PCORI's mission.
