  • Responsibilities

    The Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) is offering a Fall Internship to a qualified candidate who will support Clinical Effectiveness and Decision Science program. This paid Internship is a part-time temporary employment opportunity averaging 20 hours per week for a postgraduate student. PCORI does not provide housing for out of town residents. All applicants must be eligible to work in the US. Interested parties may apply for internships in multiple departments; please include a specific cover letter for each position.

     

     

    PAY RANGE AND EMPLOYMENT STATUS:

    Interns shall be classified as temporary, part-time employees who are hired as interim replacements, to temporarily supplement the workforce, or to assist in the completion of a specific project and who are temporarily scheduled to work less than PCORI's full-time schedule for a limited duration. Employment beyond any initially stated period does not in any way imply a change in employment status. Temporary, part-time workers are not eligible for PCORI benefits. 

    Current master's level and above students will be paid $20.00 per hour. 

     

    JOB DUTIES:

    The Clinical Effectiveness and Decision Science (CEDS) intern will support portfolio analysis efforts led either by PCORI Program staff or Program staff in conjunction with the PCORI Methodology Committee. Topics of focus for portfolio analyses may include PCORI's funded cancer portfolio, adherence to selected PCORI methodology standards within PCORI's funded research portfolio, or others.

    Related activities may include:

    • Working with PCORI staff to develop research hypotheses and key questions related to portfolio analyses
    • Reviewing funded PCORI applications for adherence to methodology standards and performing qualitative data abstraction
    • Analyzing and summarizing quantitative and/or qualitative data
    • Developing data tables, summary charts and graphs for use in PowerPoint presentations or other materials
    • Utilizing clinicaltrials.gov or other databases to assess and summarize existing or ongoing non-PCORI funded research in a clinical topic area
    • Summarizing findings and identifying next steps in conjunction with PCORI staff

    Required Skills

    The CEDS team is seeking a student currently enrolled in a graduate program, earning a MS or MPH focused in Public Health, Biology, Clinical Research Methods or Research Methodology.

    The ideal candidate will have:

    • Experience with the scientific method and research methodology
    • Familiarity with a research application or protocol
    • Exposure to a research funder or familiarity with the life cycle of a research application and award
    • Ability to analyze and synthesize complex scientific information

    Applications for the PCORI Summer Internship Program will be accepted up to 5:00pm EST on Wednesday, July 24. Applicants who are chosen will be phone screened by PCORI Human Resources. In person interviews at PCORI with relevant intern supervisors will take place from August 5 - August 16.
