    Shenandoah Conservatory, one of the country’s leading centers for collaborative work across the performing arts, is seeking nominations and applications for an exceptional teacher and artist to join its theatre faculty in the Acting Program. This full-time, career contract-eligible position at the rank of Assistant / Associate Professor begins August 15, 2020.

     

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

     

    Bringing broad industry experience, professional connections, and a passion for skillful teaching, the incoming candidate will be well positioned to work with colleagues to ensure that the BFA Acting program and the Conservatory provide enrolled students with world-class preparation for careers in acting. The incoming candidate will be expected to teach such courses as follows; Meisner and/or upper-level acting, movement, textual coursework, directing and acting on camera. The chosen candidate will be expected to further strengthen the program’s ties to the musical theatre industry, and to actively participate in faculty meetings, auditions, and recruitment activities, and in service to the broader University.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

     

    Required and minimum qualifications include the following:

    • A record of distinguished performance work at a regional or national level
    • A demonstrated passion for undergraduate theatre training and demonstrated ability to provide exceptional teaching
    • An MFA in theatre performance or equivalent professional work
    • Extensive directing experience
    • A demonstrated ability to thrive within an intensive and collaborative Conservatory environment; and
    • An ability to contribute to the Conservatory’s commitment to diversity and inclusion.

    ABOUT THE THEATRE DIVISION AND ACTING PROGRAM:

     

    Comprised of programs in Acting, Musical Theatre, and Theatre Design and Production, the Theatre Division is home to faculty who work closely with one another to create a dynamic environment in which collaboration is key and is particularly experienced through student generated conservatory and university wide collaborative projects. Shenandoah’s nationally recognized acting program builds upon a Meisner-based acting sequence which moves through foundational Conservatory-based training, two years of Meisner training, movement, and voice and speech. Upper-level coursework includes Shakespeare, stage combat, theatrical styles, directing, and script-writing. It culminates with industry-forward programming including acting for the camera, voiceover, prep for the profession, cutting-edge creative performance work and a capstone showcase tailored specifically to the needs of each senior class. Each season contains a rigorous production calendar including three musicals and three plays, an annual holiday gala, film production and the capstone experience.
