    Sustainable Agriculture Internship - Tracking Code - 180406 Job Description - This internship is designed to provide a student in the JCCC Sustainable Agriculture Program practical experience working at Johnson County Community College's Farm as well as with JCCC's Center for Sustainability on a variety of projects. Successful applicant must be willing to do farm work as well as office work. In the description of responsibilities below, the JCCC Farm will be the site where work will take place. Major Responsibilities: - To experience/shape the development of farm planning processes in a start-up sustainable market farm - To participate in day-to-day planning of work activities through the summer growing season - To develop skills in hand tools and labor processes used on a small scale sustainable market farm - To assess irrigation needs by maintaining records on soil moisture levels and consulting reference materials on water needs for various vegetable crops and then carrying out irrigation activities - To learn/conduct proper planting and transplanting techniques for various vegetable crops

    • To learn/conduct proper soil sampling techniques /testing procedures (experience conducting such testing preferred) - To learn how to make nutrient recommendations based in soil testing results that are appropriate for a sustainable agriculture setting - To experiment with sustainable products to see which best supplies the nutrients needed at an acceptable cost to the producer - To learn/conduct proper marketing of products from a sustainable farming operation - To work on other projects for the JCCC Center for Sustainability as assigned Required Skills - Must be a JCCC Sustainable Agriculture student in good standing
