    Counseling Internship - Tracking Code - 180429 Job Description - The counseling intern will serve as a member of the professional Counseling Center team, connecting with students in providing core services of academic advising, career counseling and personal counseling. Opportunities exist additionally for interns to develop workshops, participate in special college programming, work conjointly with other college personnel and participate in projects enhancing counseling or engagement initiatives, etc. The internship is designed as a hands-on experience with many intersecting points with students, faculty and staff. Presently, the internship program does not provide a scholarship, stipend or salary; however, intern participation in college workshops/trainings and some counselor-related professional development activities are financially supported by JCCC. The intern works under the mentorship and supervision of a professional counselor. Program flexibility does afford arrangement of a schedule that best matches the interns and Counseling Center needs. Weekly hours and total program hours are based on those required by the intern's graduate program. Mentors will maintain periodic contact with graduate program advisers or internship supervisors regarding intern progress. Required Skills - Must be enrolled in a program that recognizes and authorizes this internship.

    • It is expected that interns will operate in an ethical and professional manner and that they participate fully in all opportunities as reasonably agreed upon. - Interns are expected to conduct/participate in at least one special project while in the program. Conversely, interns can expect Counselors to be fully committed to enhancing their professional development, counseling skills and growth. Counselors commit to being available to fully engage with interns. - It is also expected that graduate program advisers or internship supervisors will be actively engaged in communication with program mentors and accessible. - Every employee of the college is expected to treat all members of the college community with dignity and respect demonstrating professional, courteous and respectful behavior and engage in constructive conflict resolution, when needed.
