Groundskeeper II Apply now Position Number: 989674 Work Type: Staff/Classified AFSCME Location: Kent Campus Category: Full-time Home Org/Dept: Care Of Grounds - Kent Campus [100411] Job Title: Groundskeeper II Physical Location: Kent Campus - Kent, OH Salary: $14.61 - $15.28 (6 month rate) Basic Function: Under general supervision, performs a variety of routine to skilled grounds maintenance work to include irrigation work for the purpose of maintaining an attractive landscape for students, staff, and public; may instruct assigned grounds crew. Reports to designated supervisor. Additional Basic Function if applicable: Examples of Duties: Duties/essential functions may include, but not be limited to, the following: Perform irrigation system installation and repair work for all university grounds and playing surfaces including but not limited to designing new and redesigning existing irrigation systems. Perform functional and performance checks of irrigation systems taking necessary corrective action to include maintenance and repair; maintain as required. Service, clean and check for efficiency of valves, heads, nozzles and drains of systems; perform start and shut down procedures of irrigation systems, as required. May instruct Groundskeepers, Laborers, and student employees in assigned grounds crew; train and instruct on proper work procedures, assign and monitor work activities, and coordinate work flow and schedule to ensure deadlines are met and priorities are recognized; may participate in training new employees. Perform routine lawn maintenance tasks; mow, trim, edge, till, grade, sod, seed, mulch, lime, paint field markers, water; operate varied types of large power lawn equipment (e.g., back hoe, tractors, plows, etc.). Perform routine pesticide, insecticide and fertilizer tasks; load/unload, transport, store, measure, mix and apply variety of chemical compounds; maintain records. Perform specialized horticultural maintenance tasks; plant; cultivate; propagate; prune; apply top soil; till; maintain beds, shrubs and trees; maintain records. Remove snow and ice; apply salt; operate varied types of large and small power equipment (e.g., plows, blowers, spreaders, etc.). Clean, service and repair tools and equipment used in performance of duties; install attachments and parts in equipment; repair and construct minor shelter. May drive vehicle to pick up and deliver materials, equipment and personnel; performs routine maintenance of tools and grounds equipment (e.g., cleans, paints, oils, sharpens, etc.); performs routine building maintenance and custodial duties as assigned. Maintain inventory of shop supplies and tools; may transport materials and equipment. Perform related duties as assigned. Additional Examples of Duties if applicable: Minimum Qualifications: Post high school coursework in irrigation and minimum of one year experience grounds and irrigation maintenance.Must obtain Ohio pesticide operator's license within six months of hire and maintain license; must successfully obtain basic irrigation certificate within six months of hire; may also require valid Ohio commercial driver's license. License/Certification: Valid Ohio driver's license with safe driving record; must possess or be able to attain American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED within probationary period. Knowledge Of: State rules and procedures regarding irrigation installation, vegetation control and chemical applications * Safety practice * Horticultural procedures and practices * Lawn maintenance * Tool and equipment maintenance and repair * Skill In: Operating and maintaining various type of grounds maintenance equipment including but not limited to back hoe, tractors, plows, front-end loaders, plows, blowers, etc. * Utilizing hand and power tools * Ability To: Lift up to 100 pounds * Read (e.g. basic schematics, emails, user manuals, and repair manuals), write (e.g. materials requests), and accurately follow oral, written, and graphic instructions * Perform basic mathematics (e.g. add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers, fractions, and decimals, and to calculate percentages) * Cooperate with coworkers on assigned projects/tasks Preferred Qualifications if applicable: Valid Ohio Commercial Driver's license.
