The Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) at Boston University invites applications for the position of Assistant Director. The Assistant Director provides high level support for CTL programs, which promote inclusive and innovative teaching, foster student learning, and build community at BU. A key focus of this position will be to provide pedagogical guidance and support for online and blended courses, including the training of instructors and the development of resources. The Assistant Director will also be involved in other strategic initiatives related to teaching and learning at Boston University. The Assistant Director reports to the Director of the CTL and will also work closely with other units in the Office of Digital Learning & Innovation (DL&I), particularly in the support and extension of faculty learning communities. The role of Assistant Director will evolve and offers significant opportunities for professional growth, including educational and training opportunities throughout the university and generous support for professional development beyond. The CTL is dedicated to promoting the relationship between inclusive teaching and excellence, and it strives to foster an equitable and inclusive work environment. As a key component in Boston University's expanding teaching and learning ecosystem, the Center for Teaching and Learning reports jointly to the Associate Provost for Undergraduate Affairs and the Associate Provost for Digital Learning & Innovation. CTL works closely with the other units of DL&I, namely the Educational Technologies group and the Digital Initiatives group, responsible for pilots and experiments with new ideas in teaching and learning.

Candidates should be knowledgeable about effective teaching, through research and practice, including in the online environment, and have experience working directly with faculty in a variety of professional learning settings such as individual consultations, learning communities, and formal workshops. They should hold a Ph.D. or Ed.D., have substantial teaching experience at the university level, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to communicate proactively in a team environment. Candidates should have strong organizational and project management capabilities, including the ability to manage a variety of complex projects and priorities, coordinate with others, and follow projects through to completion. They should share a commitment to BUs institutional values regarding diversity, equity, and inclusion. Experience with and interest in online teaching and educational technology is strongly preferred.
