    PATH seeks to recruit a Senior Social and Behavior Change Communication (SBCC) Officer - Print and Media for the COVID-19 Vaccine Hesitancy Project in Ethiopia. The Senior SBCC Officer will work as part of the vaccine team at the PATH Ethiopia country office with frequent travel to the project implementation areas and will support the design, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of project interventions, and provide technical assistance to national and sub-national immunization programs through collaborating with immunization communication working groups.

     

    The Senior SBCC Officer will work under the guidance and supervision of the Senior SBCC Advisor COVID-19 Vaccine Hesitancy Project in Ethiopia.

     

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

     

    • Support the senior SBCC advisor and co-lead the conceptualization, design, development, and production of tailored and effective SBCC materials and media messages for the COVID-19 Vaccine Hesitancy Project in Ethiopia
    • Lead the designing of SBCC interventions (print materials and media messages) for targeted groups; distribute and provide orientation on proper utilization of the materials and messages.
    • Regularly conduct social media monitoring to identify rumors, misinformation, and disinformation circulated on social media and prepare counter messages for identified rumors, misinformation, and disinformation in close collaboration with the Senior SBCC Advisor.
    • follow up and monitor proper utilization of the materials and messages; and support the senior SBCC advisor in report writing and best practices and lessons learned documentation.
    • With the support of a Senior SBCC advisor, organize and facilitate advocacy workshops, social mobilization, community engagement, and communication interventions.
    • Provide technical advice and support to national, Addis Ababa, and Bahir Dar City Administrations EPI teams on how to track rumors, misinformation, and disinformation circulated on social media and how to tackle it with trusted counter messages
    • Collect and submit project activity-related data for the data manager for further analysis and evidence generation
    • Collaborate in the monitoring of SBC activity performance, support the documentation of best practices and lessons learned, contribute to the preparation of periodic project progress reports
    • Work with immunization and other Communications platforms within PATH and support the preparation of technical communication materials related to immunization, Contribute to drafting communication materials like blogs, flyers, brochures
    • Work closely with youth and women structures and forums to identify the best and up-to-date media that mainly affect youth and women.
    • Any other tasks as requested by the immediate supervisor

     

    Required Skills Required Experience

     

    • Master’s degree or higher in public health communications, online and mainstream media communications, and/ or other relevant behavioral/social science fields.
    • Minimum five (5) years experience in public health programming, policy, or research, with at least three (3) years experience in the area of immunization and maternal/child health programs.
    • Experience in working with print or mainstream media
    • Formal training in and demonstrated understanding of theories and frameworks relating to individual behavior change and broader social responses, the evidence base for social and behavioral/communications interventions, best practices, and familiarity with the current SBC literature is preferred.
    • Experience in coordinating project activities and working with local, grass root structures.
    • Hands-on experience designing, planning, implementing, and evaluating behavioral interventions and/or communication campaigns is highly desirable.
    • Experience in monitoring social media, analyzing data and information to use them as inputs for project activity planning and intervention
    • Proven ability to create and maintain effective working relationships with government, partners, and other organizations at various levels.
    • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a team, including cross-cultural teams.
    • Experience developing various web/print/social media or organizing events desired.
    • Substantial experience in social and behavior change programming is required.
    • Excellent analytical, written, and oral communication skills.
    • Ability to travel to regions, estimated to be about 40%.

  • Qualifications

    Required Skills:

    • Seven (5) or more years supervising and managing departments and individuals involved in food processing, is a plus.
    • Experience in Formulation, Blending, and Stuffing is a plus.
    • Experience in fermentation, cooking and drying is a plus.
    • Water-activity, PH testing, and fat-testing is plus.
    • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally with employees at all levels of the organization.
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities at one time using effective organizational skills and judgment in an environment of frequently changing circumstances.
    • Ability to use the Microsoft Office suite of applications; specifically using Word to create and modify documents, Excel to record data and calculate results, and Outlook to communicate internally and externally.
    • Bachelor’s Degree in business management, production operations management, agricultural science, food science is preferred.
    • Work is generally performed within a manufacturing environment subjected to temperatures of cold and warm along with wearing the proper PPE, with standard office equipment available along with plant manufacturing environment. 
    • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, bend, walk, use  hands or finger, talk, hear, feel objects, tools, or controls; may be required to lift up to 50 pounds. Vision abilities include close vision to a computer screen.
