  • Responsibilities

    The Executive Director of Information Technology, BUMC is the senior executive with direct responsibility for and management of BUMC information technology services including network infrastructure, systems, desktop support and service desk, application development and support, teaching and learning technologies, and research computing. Reporting jointly to the Provost of the Medical Campus and the Vice President of Information Services and Technology, the Executive Director serves as an active member of the leadership of the Boston University Medical campus where strategic priorities for the medical campus are set. The Executive Director also will work with Information Services & Technology on strategic technology direction and university-wide policies on IT architecture, service management, and infrastructure. S/he will be a member of the BU IS&T leadership team. A key BUMC priority is to maintain and continuously improve the alignment of IT services and responsibilities to customer needs, coordinating IT activities across the campus and with BU central IS&T to meet the strategic goals of BUMC and the University. The Executive Director will participate in and coordinate broader BUMC participation in University IT governance, manage organizational development and build strong working relationships with the faculty, staff, and students. They should have demonstrated prior success in an Academic Medical Center, with experience in research and health care computing, and, in delivering IT services to customers and driving large, complex projects to successful conclusions. 

    Required Skills

    Qualifications (Minimum education & experience level required):

    • Masters degree, preferably in a subject area related to information systems or management. Experience can substitute for field of study
    • 10+ years experience in IT management, including client relationship management
    • Management experience with the development and delivery of infrastructure, desktop support, enterprise systems and enterprise application services
    • Experience with medical information technology
    • Experience managing client relationships
    • Experience developing and using performance metrics
    • Foundation certification in the IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) desirable

     

    Experience with, and knowledge of, a University setting desirable Skill requirements (include complexity of position):

    • Ability to build relationships and provide leadership in a large, complex environment
    • Excellent written and verbal communication across all sectors of an organization
    • Excellent time management, prioritization, and organizational skills
    • Ability to work independently and proactively

     

    Technical knowledge across the major IT service delivery areas Interpersonal skills (include personal interaction):

    • This position requires outstanding interpersonal skills, for use in building internal team cooperation as well as strong partnerships with the BU client community.

Will be exposed to and required to deal with highly confidential and sensitive material. Must adhere to Boston University compliance policy, department guidelines/policies and all applicable laws and regulations at all times.
