    Job Description

    As the fastest growing, highest-performing charter school network in New York State, Success Academy has reimagined public education. Nationally recognized for achieving outstanding academic results for students from all backgrounds and zip codes, we have created an innovative K-12 school model that is preparing current and future generations of children with the subject mastery and skills to succeed in college and life. We now need a Lead, Elementary School (ES) Literacy Content Design to join our Education Institute team.

    The Education Institute is our engine for reimagining public education within our schools and far beyond, and brings together a powerful K-12 focus across content and design, implementation, and instructional development. 

    As a critical member of our Education Institute department reporting to the Head, ES Content Design, the Lead, ES Literacy Content Design will be an innovative, results-driven leader who brings a deep understanding of literacy education to devise and manage design enhancements to our rigorous and progressive program that will prepare students with the reading, writing, communication, and critical thinking skills necessary to flourish throughout their K-12 educational careers as well as in and beyond college. Success is currently engaged in a comprehensive elementary school redesign. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in taking our successful K-4 program to the next level, having a positive long-term impact on the educational trajectory of thousands of students.

    Key responsibilities include:

    • Designing and implementing the vision and framework for the K-4 literacy program by managing the development of new curricula and the revision of existing curricula;
    • Managing a team of Content Associates and Specialists in the creation and revision of high quality, vision aligned curriculum and content;
    • Directly designing and building curriculum items, including lesson, unit, and grade level materials; 
    • Leading collaborative training sessions to further develop teacher and school leader understanding of the K-4 literacy curriculum;
    • Engaging in lesson observation, data analysis, and work study to identify opportunities for improving our literacy program; 
    • Working closely with colleagues in other content areas and on our middle and high school teams to facilitate innovation and ensure K-12 alignment;
    • Supporting key cross-content Education Institute initiatives.

  • Qualifications

    A successful candidate will have the following skills, characteristics, and qualifications:

    • Experience with people and team management. Strong managerial instincts;
    • A degree and/or substantial coursework or professional experience in literature, writing, or literacy education. Advanced degree in a related field a bonus;
    • At least three years of experience in education. Experience in content design and educational leadership strongly preferred;  
    • A demonstrated ability to design and lead projects that produce strong learning outcomes; 
    • Strong attention to detail;
    • Extremely strong writing and proofreading skills; and
    • Strong work ethic and ability to work flexibly.
