    The Questrom School of Business at Boston University anticipates openings for up to 12 part time Action Learning Educators for its first year full-time MBA Action Learning Capstone Project Course.

     

    Questrom’s Action Learning Course develops students’ ability to apply integrated management perspectives and practices to live business challenges and opportunities. A foundational part of Questrom’s Full Time MBA Curriculum, this capstone course provides first year full time MBA students with the opportunity to work with Host Partners on scoped projects focused on marketing, operations and/or strategy. Under the guidance and direction of Action Learning Educators, student teams define a project goal and the research questions to be investigated, conduct research and depth interviews, and develop a set of actionable deliverables and/or recommendations for organization partners. Action Learning Educators have the opportunity to work with Questrom’s intellectually curious, motivated, and socially conscious MBA students and to become an active part of a vibrant and caring academic community.

     

    Appointment as an Action Learning Educator is conditioned on securing the commitment of a host organization to source one project for the course (subject to Academic Director Approval). Action Learning Educators are responsible for overseeing, guiding, mentoring and teaching the three student teams working on that project during the semester.

     

    Responsibilities of Action Learning Educators include:

     

    In Fall of 2021:

    • Draft, review and finalize project description (subject to approval of Academic Director and Host organization) (1-2 paragraph template and blind project description).
    • Attend 2 meetings with Action Learning Team to coordinate and plan for spring semester course.

     

    During Spring semester of 2022:

    • Attend 2-hour intensive during week of January 17th to introduce project and assign teams.
    • Regular class meetings with teams across spring semester (1/week, at a pre-scheduled time for 1.25 hours). Involves coaching, facilitating, mentoring and the provision or arrangement for project-specific instruction.
    • Attend virtual weekly team meetings with host (20 minutes/team; 1/week at prescheduled times). Serve a listening and evaluative role during client calls. Student teams plan for and run these sessions. Action Learning Educators evaluate whether teams are making effective use of host organization time, strategically planning across semester, adapting as necessary, etc.
    • Attend weekly coordination meeting with Academic Director and TAs (1 hour)
    • Grade individual and team assignments (subject to Academic Director rubrics and guidelines)
    • Maintain regular and constructive communication with project sponsor to provide updates and receive feedback and secure evaluative feedback on student team performance

     

    The start date for this position is November 1, 2021. Offers extended will be contingent upon satisfactory reference checks, the candidate’s successful sourcing of a host project, and the execution of a non-disclosure agreement should one be required by the host organization. Host project commitments must be received on or before October 15 for the position to be confirmed and take effect.

    Required Skills

    • An M.B.A. or master’s degree in a related field is strongly preferred.
